Not complaining - just ... Ok complaining

Looks like I have to have my drains in for another 2 weeks which will make for a whole month of dealing with these god awful things. I was really hoping to not have to go back to work with these things still in me but looks like thats not going to happen. They don't hurt, however their location makes it really hard to get comfortable when I sleep at night, since the pressure of my body weight irritates them. Recovery is going well, but I still have nerve pain in my legs that comes and goes. Since my incision was done extra low some leg nerves got irritated and damaged I guess. I'm very very pleased with my results - especially the belly button. The stitches are hid inside making it look really natural. Looking forward to posting some more pics when I get these drains out and things heal up a bit. Until then I will continue to grit my teeth and pout every now and then. I know all this is well worth the sacrifice of my comfort for the next few weeks. No more extra skin - YES! kiss

I am sorry you have to deal with the drains for a little while longer! I have said it time and time again, DRAINS SUCK! I know that they serve a purpose but they are such a pain. Hopefully the 2 weeks will fly by and be a distant memory before you know it!

The position of the drains would be difficult. Don't fret on having them in for 4 weeks. I had a drain in for 6 weeks and fudged the numbers a bit to get it out since I couldn't stand it any longer. It does stink having them in when going back to work but on the good side since you're a guy you don't have to deal w/ them every time you have to use the restroom like I did.

Hang in there!  I realize the drains are uncomfortable, but if the Dr. feels they need to be in it is a good thing.  I will tell you first hand that the consequence of pushing to remove them is not good.  When I had my first abdonimal surery with Dr. MacRea, she was ready to remove my drains at 2 weeks.  1 week later, I woke up with my belly button draining and then the front of my incision opened up so it could drain.  I ended up having surgery 2 months later to put a drain back on and close the wound.  Apparently, the swelling built up and put pressure in that area that the wound could not handle.  It was a god awful mess.  I

I know they suck, but just picture down the road!  It will all be worth it.

I may have had a few extra potholes along the way, but the journey has been good!

Hang in there bergie! You can do it. Better to keep the stupid drains in and not risk infection. In the long run it won't matter. How long will it be post op when you have to return to work? Assuming it's a desk job or something where you can sit?! Yikes.

Just wear loose clothes. Sit up on pillows for sleeping. I'm sure you are, and I'm sure you're ready to lie on your back. In time you will.

Keep us posted! {HUG}

I ended up with my UBL drain for 3 weeks and 2 days before I had it pulled.  It was right in the front and difficult to hide when I went back to work.  It's been out 2 weeks and so far no problems.

As long as your drain keeps outputing, grin and say thank you for getting that liquid out through the drain.   Much better than a hole and a leak.  I put a 1/2 pad on the hole when mine was pulled and there was only a few little drips.  Good luck.  Lots of pillows to brace your back.
