Plastic Surgery Abroad
Hi everyone,
I would like to have PS, namely tummy tuck, breast augmentation, inner thigh lift, possible butt augmentation and back liposuction, done. As you see, that's a lot of procedures =) Has anyone here had successful plastic surgery done abroad? I'd like to get some contact information for some surgeons that I can reach out to for estimates. I'd like to get those procedures done in or before March. I'd appreciate any help. Thanks
I went to Dr. Sauceda in Monterrey, Mexico and had - arm lift, breast lift/aug, lower body lift/TT, butt aug, thigh lift. I'm not sure what you mean by successful, but I havent had any serious complications, and I look pretty darn good. If you want to friend me and send me a message, I have few pics up you can look at.
He has a forum here on OH that's full of great and helpful info and can put you in contact with a lot of happy patients of Dr. S.

Did you have those procedures done at once or did you make multiple trips?
I am extremely interested in seeing Dr. Sauceda once I have maintained my weight loss for 6 mths (only 4 mths post op so a ways to go). Those are the same procedures I want to have done and worried if it would be horrible to have them all done in one shot or if it should be broken into multiple surgeries.
Dr Sauceda! He ROCKS!
There is a large group of former patients here on OH. I have been twice to his OR and am returning this year!
He's priority is safety first!

I think any surgeon who does not insist on proper aftercare at HIS cost not yours, is a doctor who doesn't make your safety his priority. Dr Q offers the "spa or recovery center" but it is at an extra cost to you. You can take that option or your can not and that to me is a huge red flag. Sending a fresh patient out of the OR, to a hotel in a foreign country is just wrong.
I'm sorry, but I feel very strong about this. I have now heard of two very serious situations involving this doctor due to is lack of proper aftercare.

My perspective on overseas surgery is different and less positive because I see patients who have had surgery abroad and have developed problems. Once back home, they find it difficult for financial reasons to get the care owed to them by their operating surgeon who is unavailable. You will not see their posts here or anywhere because they are typically embarrassed or ashamed and people give them an "told them so" complex. My post is not about being negative, but it is what it is and I am assuming you have come here for information. If you are considering overseas surgery, think of the following tips: Have a local doctor who knows about aftercare for the surgery you plan and who agrees to assume your care when you get home. "You don't get what you don't pay for" in terms of aftercare after youa re home. See if your insurance, or perhaps travel insurance, would cover you if you developed problems while away and needed to stay longer or receive extra services. See if your health insurance covers you for care of complications after you are home. Ask about how you will be treated for blood clot prevention, since a large surgery like this plus the compression garment plus travel (if over 3 hours) are all separate risk factors for clot development. I am amazed and alarmed at how often this simple standard of care is ignored. Check online for the actual agency that lists your surgeon's credentials, and understand that "board certification" means different things in different countries. I am aware of a surgeon in Mexico who claims board certification and membership in a U.S. plastic surgery society. Check the membership directory of these organizations yourself: https://www.abplsurg.org/ModDefault.aspx?section=SurgeonSearch http://www1.plasticsurgery.org/find_a_surgeon/ An organization called Joint Commission International (J****xists to inform patients about surgery overseas. They also inspect and accredit facilities. Check the accreditation of the facility where your surgery will be performed http://www.jointcommissioninternational.org/International-Essentials-for-Quality-and-Patient-Safety/ and request their free "International Essentials for Quality and Patient Safety" handbook. They also have a "Speak Up" program so patients can be proactive in their care: http://www.jointcommissioninternational.org/Speak-Up-Program/ If cost savings is your main concern, consider a residency or University training program closer to your home as an option. Hope this helps,
