Advice please about good Creams???

Hello everyone,

I had my arm lift on November 20th, and would like some advice as to what creams you found good for your scars?  I have heard Vitamin E is good, but if you know of any others that have shown great results, I would appreciate hearing about them.

FYI...I just returned from my my plastic surgeon's office and found out something that I did not know.  I told him I was going to Cuba first week of February for a week holiday and asked if the sun would hurt my arm scars....he said yes, definitely, to be very careful.  Apparently the sun can darken the scars permanently.  That sure was good to know...going to get some high numbered sunscreen and keep it plastered on my scars for sure.  Hopefully it does the trick...but I will also make sure to keep my arms down while sitting in the beach lounge chairs.

Have a good day, and take care.

Linda

I had my arms done the end of Aug and just love them!!! I use scar away silicone strips nightly. After showing baby oil or Palmer's cocoa butter. I am also getting massage therapy on the scars. Definitely avoid the sun and keep the scars covered. My scars are slowly fading and becoming less noticeable and raised. Enjoy your vacation!

Thanks so much for replying.  I will check for some of those silicone strips tomorrow and get the cream.  I went out today and bought a high number suntan lotion and will put that on my scars every morning and throughout the day when in Cuba.  I won't raise my arms to sunbathe...I am sure it will go fine.  Thank goodness the scars are under the arms and out of sight in most cases.  And I am so glad the surgeon told me about the sun not being good for the scars.  I had no idea.

I was told mederma by my surgeon. I use the "onion sauce" as I call it but I have more faith in the pure Shea butter and emu oil I have been using. I also found pure coconut oil to be absolutely divine for moisturizing skin. My scars are all still red but very thin and flat . I am so looking forward to them fading!

Have fun on vacation!!

Thank you for your response.  I will head out shortly and see what lotions I can find at my local drugstore.  I do believe I have seen Mederna there before.  My scars are doing very well thus far...still red in spots and fading in other spots...I have some little bumps here and there, but I think they go down as time passes.  I have read that on the message board.  It is amazing how the body heals itself over time isn't it?  I will have to post some pictures on here soon to show the progression.  I did take some pics at the outset after surgery...time to take some more I guess.

Thanks again...take care.

I believe time and genetics probably determine the most. Time, I keep reminding myself, takes time!

Mederma has mixed reviews online. I have been using mederma advanced for 8 weeks. I order the virgin Shea butter and pure emu oil at platinum skin care.com. I bought coconut oil to cook with and then I read rave reviews for other uses...I love it!!

I am 4 weeks out from arm lift.  Like Bamabelle, I put silicone strips on in the morning and then at night, after my shower, I use Palmers Cocoa Butter Skin Therapy Oil and massage & stretch the scars.  I am pleased with how my scars look and how conditioned my skin is (not to mention the added bonus the Palmers has had on my cuticles since I rub the oil into my hands after I am done with massage therapy on scars)

For SURE avoid the sun on your scars at least the first year.  It will permanently darken them.

Enjoy your Feb Holiday!

I use a product called kela cote. It is a silicone based cream and does a great job of reducing scars. It is expensive but a little bit of it goes a long way. A large tube lasts me 6 months and I have some large scars to cover. You have to be consistent about using it but it does work.
