How did you get time off?

My question is simply how did you get enough time off from work? I wouldn't want to risk my job.

Is it possible to take medical leave or will I have a hard time getting this?

Any note from a dr and they have to (I'm pretty sure) let you off work.

I was told plastics isn't covered under fmla....unless my insurance covered the panni. I would "fish" around about your companies policy. Then if you have to be vague about what you are doing.

Here is the thing I know I can get 2 weeks paid vacation when the time comes and that I may be able to ask for an additional week off but I doubt I will get anymore then that. I don't know if that is a long enough recovery period to go back to work. I am just working an accounting clerk position but I also do the receptionist's job on her lunch break. I can pretty much sit for all of those positions but I don't know if that will exhaust me.

What do you plan to have done? For me about 3 weeks was good. However, I ended up with huge seromas and my first week back I was off 3 days to travel 2.5 hrs to see my serve on to be drained. I was out two days the next week. Then thankfully the seromas cleared up. I suppose what I am saying is make sure to plan a little for the unexpected.

You can be vague about your surgery if you're not applying for FMLA (job protection) and Short Term Disability.  My company uses Matrix - and they required forms be filled out by my surgeon stating the procedures done and how long I would need off.  They kept that information private from my employer, however, my occupational med nurse was informed.

Very nice. I bet the hernia repair made the difference. They were weird at my hr department. I don't qualify for sick leave as I am part time....I am not on their insurance...I am an at will employee. I have no clue why they made a huge deal if fmla other than I couldn't ask for donated sick leave (which I don't qualify for...)

Hope you're feeling well

As long as my surgery was "medically necessary" I was able to get short term disability (which I ended up not needing) and FMLA.  My doctor listed it as medically necessary to remediate the excessive sweating and infections in my navel.
