Not happy...yet. Recommendations needed assp

I have come to the fact that I am not completely happy with my weight loss. Let me explain: the loss of weight is a great thing. As well as the fact that I've lowered or no longer have many of the health risks that I had before. But what I am absolutely not happy about is the excess skin. I've tried working out and Toning up as people advise me to. But it's hard for me to explain to people that its not that I need to "tone up" it's the excess skin from where all the far was that is no longer there. So I have come to the end of my rope and have decided to consider plastic surgery. I thought about it before but now I am set on going through with it. Its a comfort thing. Even though people tell me all the time that i look great I look in the mirror and i am jot completely happy...yet. I live in NJ. So I am only willing to find a doctor in NJ, NY or PA. Is there anyone who has had plastic surgery to remove the excess skin in any of those states that could recommend their doctor?
Thank you in advanced.

I have used the docs at the university of pennsylvania.  So far, I have used two different docs there and they are very skilled and wonderful doctors.  I didn't follow the recommendation that you find someone who specializes in wls patients.  I don't necessarily believe that is a requirement as long as you are up front with the doctor and he is a skilled surgeon. I am very happy with those results.  I also didn't think that I would have taken it this far.  But once you see the weight loss and how good you look and feel, your mind starts to go there - wanting to relieve all of your issues.  I would strongly recommend a consult with them.

I don't have any recommendations for you as I live in NC.. but I just wanted to comment and tell you that you are feeling just like I did.   Losing the weight is really only step 1...  we feel like we traded one issue for another one.  Others just don't see the excess skin when we have clothes on.  And it is not only about looking good naked.  I just really wanted my clothes to fit!  Before my LBL I needed pants in a 10 or 12 to accommodate the stomach from hell.  After my LBL I wear a 6.  So in my opinion we don't really complete the journey until all that skin is gone.  And no amount of exercise and toning will make that elasticity magically come back.  I have spent nearly $30k (which I borrowed from my 401(k)) to 'complete' this journey.  And I have no regrets.

Good luck to you!

Leigh Ann

Hi,

I feel the same way....it is normal to be discouraged by things we can't change...no amount of working out will get my body to the body I want....I've done all I could and it looks decent, but the skin bothers me and it is a constant source of frustration.

Dr. Joseph Capella is in NJ....he is very experienced with WLS patients...has great pictures and proof of his work...I went to a consultation and really liked him and what he said he could do for me...I just couldn't afford it.

I tell everyone that I'm rock hard under all this skin. They laugh at me, but I'm serious. I do 12 fitness classes a week ( 4 bodypump, 2 strength & tone, 2 zumba, 2 spinning, 1 kickboxing, and 1 yoga), 2-3 hours of heavy weights a week, and I'm training for my first 5K 3 days a week. But no one can tell because I look like freaking Clay Face from the Batman cartoons! I have so much skin on my butt and back that when I try to do some of the moves in class (like the ones where you sit on your butt and pick your legs up to work your abs) my skin pops out to the side and my buttcrack rips! Also, I always have sores and rashes in my skin folds AND my bellybutton gets stuck shut! I HATE IT!!! But, I'm still at 165. I want to get down to 140 before I start having my plastic surgeries. I want to be in a healthy weight range for my height when I'm done. I'm not losing any more weight though and I don't know what to do. I get between 1,100-1,400 calories a day and I am burning 1,500-2,500 calories a day (on top of what we burn just from being alive). I always get around 100-120g of protein a day and a minimum of 96oz. of water.
