For those of you that have had a LBL... what is recovery like?
Hello. I am new to this board. I am 11 months out from RNY surgery. I have a lot of excess skin going on accross my lower part of my body so I am starting to think about having a LBL and Brachioplasty at some point in the future. I'm not at goal and don't plan on doing any of this until after reaching goal and possibly after having a few kids. What is the recovery like for a LBL, pain wise, time of work, etc? Also, if you have had your arms done, what was that like?
Thanks in advance!
Thanks in advance!
My LBL was done on Dec. 20th and I went day after Christmas shopping... slowly, but I was okay to go out of the house. I was uncomfortable, but it was controlled by pain meds. I went back to work (as a teacher) after a week and a half. I would advise not doing your arms and LBL at the same time (i have had both done) and do not know what I would do if I couldn't use my arms when I had my LBL and vica versa.
I may have had a few extra potholes along the way, but the journey has been good!

- Medial Thigh lift & Brachioplasty - Dr. Macrea 7/2011
- LBL - Dr. Joseph Michaels (Sibley Memorial) 12/22/2011
- Upper Body Lift with Mastoplexy - Dr. Joseph Michaels 12/20/2012
That seems like a great plan! :-) I did my arms first, but they will be redone as I still have a lot of lose skin.

I disagree w/ the last person. I had my LBL & brachio done at the same time and was absolutely fine. I didn't have any drains or problems w/ my arms. Just had to be careful not to use them much and had everything at waist/countertop level. I was out walking the neighborhood and at the gym at 2 & 3 weeks respectively. I went back to work (desk job) full time at week 4. The only issue I had was that I had one drain in for 6 weeks. Wasn't the best having to go back to work w/ a drain still in but it was doable. I had very little pain and was off pain meds except for sleeping at day 5. My arms were one of the easiest and pain free of all the plastics I've had. Worst thing for those was the compression garment fell on one of the incisions in my arm pit but I was able to adjust that very quickly to relieve that.
I had very little pain from my LBL, BL, arms and sm inside thigh lift. I was able to do almost everything for myself, except for the lifting. I was in the clinic for 7 days and in the Hampton Inn for 7 days before returning home.
My daughter did my shopping for me and carrying the heavy stuff. When you get your arms done, if you have anything up on top of shelves where you have to stretch, MOVE it down lower. I ended up moving stuff that I used within easy reach.
I was off for 8 weeks. I was also 58 when I had my PS. I had an uneventful recovery and no problems besides a couple of areas that took a little longer to heal.
I had one recovery period and it was wonderful.
