How long out of work?

I'm having a LBL and BL on November 9th.  I have a desk job.  I PLAN (depending on my healing) to be out of the office for 2-3 weeks.  My job allows me to work from home, so my 1st week back I'll work there.

How long did you have to stay home after surgery?

I was off for 8 weeks.  I had an LBL, BL, arms, sm thigh and a full neck & face lift.  I was in Monterrey for 2 weeks, and home for another 6.  I was also 58 when I had my PS.  It took a long time to get my energy back.

I protein loaded for over a month before surgery getting in 175-200g of protein daily and for 3-4 mo after surgery.  With the DS I generally eat 100+g of protein anyway.    I had a textbook recovery.  I took naps daily, and walked every day.

I really hope you heal faster than me. I had inverted t tummy tuck and man I didn't leave my house for 4 weeks. Honestly that is cause I have the bestest friends and hubby. It's been 5 weeks and I'm still hurting, not dying but hurting. I just volunteered at my son' s school for 3 hours, grading, filing, making copies and I had to come home and lie down and take a pill. I know not everyone is like me, and I think this giant whole I have in my stomach is some of the pain, but please don't try to do too much too quickly. You are going to need some time.

P.S. Yesterday I was walking with my 10 year old and I told him "STOP look at my shadow, its so skinny  with an hour glass shape." I was so happy, so with all the complications I have had.....I would do it 100 times. ;-)

Hi Kim:

I had the FDL tummy tuck and hernia repair in May.  I was off of work for 5 weeks.  I did do some work from home during my fourth week.  My recovery was slow for the first three weeks but I felt much better after that.  Good luck with your upcoming surgery.  I plan to have the second half of my LBL sometime in the Spring.  Can't wait.

You had the same surgery as me. I didn't know I had a hernia though? Did you have any wound complications? Did yours open at the T intersection. If it did how long did it take to heal?

Hi Sharon:

I was very blessed.  I did not have any complications and none of my stitches opened up.  I really babied my t-section and it did great.  I do notice now after five months of a little hard lump under the T-section that I believe is scar tissue.  I only feel it when I stand up or have eaten to much.  I originally was going to have the full LBL but with the issue of the hernias we decide to split the surgery up.  I am so glad that we did.  What was suppose to be 1 1/2 hours for hernia surgery turned into 3 hours.  That only left 3 1/2 hrs for my FDL Tummy Tuck.  We did not get to extend it as fall as we originally were because of the time limit.  I have two small dog ears on each side that will be repaired when I have the back half of the lift down in the Spring.  So looking forward to having that part of surgery finish.  I am sorry that you have had to deal with the healing issue but from what I have read, it usually takes about 3-5 months to complete heal from that kind of wound.  Here is to speedy healing to you.
