How long after PS did you wait to get back on the scale?

I'm 11 days out from anchor TT/thigh lift and have managed to stay off the scale so far. I definitely want to stay off at least until my drains are out...but also want to be sure that it's a psychologically positive experience when I do so, and I know that the swelling can cause major weight fluctuations for a while.

The surgeon said he removed nearly 7 pounds of skin, plus I feel like I've eaten incredibly healthy since the surgery (cut back  on carbs/sweets that had creaped into my otherwise pretty healthy diet), which in normal times would probably translate to a pound or two. BUT -- I realize that I might not see those pounds on the scale, now or possibly ever. For me, weight/the scale is such a mind-game, and to the extent that it matters to me I  try to use it in ways that motivate me to move forward in a healthy manner.

So, those of you who have already had plastic surgery:
- When DID you first weigh yourself again after your procedure? and
- If you had it all to do over again, when WOULD you weigh yourself? (if the results affected you emotionally, perhaps?)

Thanks!

Laura

Hey Laura,

Congratulations on you PS surgery.
I remember you had to have some emergency gallbladder surgery 1st.
I'm so happy that it didn't delay your PS to far out. You must feel elated to have finally gotten through it. I know when I finally  make the selction of surgeon and get the financing straightened out I won't be able to wait.

So how was you surgical experience?

I'm still in the process of selecting a surgeon. I've did my last consult with  a surgeon a Duke medical center. Out of the 4 that I have spoken with, He is the most experienced and since He is not in a private practice, I didn't feel like I was trying to be sold on anything.

Congrats again on the final stage of your new you : )

The day after I got home-6-7 days after surgery.  I was down 16 pounds, but had a huge panni removed!  I came home with 5 drains and had them for about 3 weeks.  3 days after the drains came out, my weight went up 7 pounds!  It took 2 months for the fluid weight to dissipate and for my weight to settle into the 136-139 range that it has been since then.

Wow, Michele! I can't imagine having five drains in for three weeks -- I was going crazy after just 10 days! All of my drains were taken out this afternoon -- I was literally dancing with joy!

Thank you for sharing how your weight fluctuated. It's so interesting what wild swings can occur over the first few months!

Best,
Laura

I had 13 lbs of skin removed with LBL and arm lift. It did not show up on the scale for a long time. It was very upsetting. Unless you are prepared for it,as long as you know you are doing the right things with your food, just do what you know is right and don't get on the scale. JMHO.

 Marla,
You are SO right -- I will try to hold out as long as I can! Today was the first day I wore capris/bottoms that weren't huge and elastic, and I'm wearing a size or so larger than normal, so I'm sure there's a heck of a lot of swelling going on. Better not to attach a number to it right now!

Thanks for your input.

I had 16.3 removed and 10 showed up on the scale a month later. PLEASE remember that some of what is removed is water and your body WILL replini**** Look at the differences in your body, not the scale,

Thanks for the reminder!

I've actually quoted you before on this very point to family and friends (I know you've posted this advice/insight before), but now it's time for ME to internalize it!

I am 2 months out, and still have not seen a difference on the scale. I was told they took almost 4 1/2 pounds off.

I am now trying to get my weight down as it seems my outer thighs have ballooned. It may be swelling, but hopefully more protein, cleaner eating and more fluids will help it go away.
