Silicone Gel Strips

I am just four weeks out from plastics - tummy tuck, breast lift, and brachioplasty.  Doc spoke to me about silicone gel strips;  said I could use them - they are a "pain to use"  have to "put them on" twice a day, etc.  He didn't have a strong recommendation for them.  Also recommended mederma (OTC) as an option as well as  a new product he just got - didn't try yet - but he gave me a sample "Skin Medica" Scar Recovery Gel.   Just curious what people have tried for scar remedication, and in particular the silicone gel -- thoughts or experiences out there ?

I'm using 3M's micropore paper tape (comes in beige, so it blends in with your skin). It reduces the tension on the scar, thus preventing widening.  Also, it helps the scars heal nice and flat. Plus, it's another way to keep the sun off your scars. It can stay on for up to a week (I usually change it every few days and then massage with a lotion). Everything I've read says that scabs are not good - they are dead tissue. I am almost five weeks out, and I've had no scabs. My scars look really good so far.

I bought some Kelocote, but I'm saving that to use once I stop with the paper tape - probably about six weeks out.

 Hi Eileen,
Can you get that tape at Walgreen's or any drugstore?

You can buy it at any drugstore. It's the same kind of tape you would use to hold a gauze pad in place. I bought a large quantity online to save a little money, since I knew I would need a lot.

I am 4 weeks out from having lbl and breast augmrntation and lift and have dr appt today. My dr had me order gelzone wrap for lbl and oleevas scar shapes for chest. I go into today for check up and to learn how to use them. I guess every dr is different. I have heard nothing but good things about these products but will find out soon!  Good luck!

I'm using the skin medica TNS Recovery Complex, along with the Scar Recovery Gel. It is supposed to be the latest in scar treatment. I have been using for about 3 weeks or so. It is SUPER Expensive! Does it work? Well I'm not sure yet I will let you all know. I'm using it on my brachioplasty scars and half of my tummy tuck scar ( to see if I can tell a difference). I'm using bio oil on the rest of the tummy tuck scar.

I bought some stuff called "Scar Gel" it is silicone based and the ingredients are almost exactly the same thing I found on line for 10x the cost.  I bought it at Cub Foods in Minnesota - it is a "Roundy's" generic brand.  It was $9.95 for the tube and it has done a fabulous job on my scars!

Dr. Benn gave me an incredible tool.. and I intend to make the most out of it!!

I am using Pure Coconut oil. The same stuff you can cook with and eat.
You can go to my pictures and see my 1 month out scars. The massaging
motion is what really helps the scar tissue I was told. I perfer the coconut oil
because first off it smells like a pina colada that I can no longer drink and
I didnt want to put anymore chemicals on or in my body that I didn't have to.

Good luck

Dani

ps, my husband made me buy a second jar. Said he didn't want me to cook with
the same jar I use on my skin. Said it would weird him out. So I just said
"yes dear"
