OK, so the reason my underarm opened up has now become more clear! I have spit a stitch. Looks to be about a half inch and its clear. I bought sharp tweers and some small scissors. Doc said I can remove it. How do I go about this? Do I pull it or just clip it close to the skin? I have to e-mail him and get more details I was on my cell phone and had horrible reception. I know many of you here have been through this so please give me any advice you can!! Thank you!

If it's in your underarm I don't see how you're going to remove it yourself! Definitely have someone help you. I spit stitches when I had my breasts done, and I ended up using sterilized tweezers and a small sharp pair of scissors (also sterilized- soaked them both in hydrogen peroxide for a minute). You can tug gently on the end of the filament, and if it comes out more, you can pull it. But if it doesn't come out easily, don't be pulling and digging, because you risk just opening up your arm even more. Hold the filament taught with the tweezers and clip it as close to the skin as you can. Usually once you clip it, the end will get sorta sucked back under the skin. After that, put some bacitracin ointment on it a couple times a day to keep it moist and keep it covered with a bandage or gauze until it has healed.

I've been going through the same thing! I just pull as far as it goes and trim as short as possible. Then it heals right up. It's a big pain though, literally! Once you trim it, it feels a lot better.

Thanks ladies. The doc gave the go ahead so we removed it. Sterile  tweezers and scissors. Didn't need the scissors. When Hubby pulled the stitch it came right out. There was actually two pieces and the other part came out as well. It already feels better. I have the oitment on it and guaze.
