LBL Incision opening up at 4 wks out?

My incision opened up a little, about the size of a pencil eraser head. Just wondering why this happens now when I'm almost 4 weeks out. Shouldn't the incision be pretty well healed by now?

Is it leaking?  My doctor told me that the incision could open up if you have excess fluid build up like a seroma.  The liquid will look for a weak spot on the incision line and force it's way out.  Also, if you spit a stitch, it can cause a pimple like bump and erupt along the incision line causing a new opening.

Thank you for your response. No leaking so I will take that as a positive sign.

My incision is open about size of nickel where all incisions come together, and it is leaking fluid.  With corset trunkplasty it is common, so I was expecting it.  I do not have any seromas, the glue just pulled apart and it is leaking the fatty necrosis crap.  everywhere else looks good, and the surgeon removed the tape from all the other incisions.

I will post 1 month out pics wednesday.   I am very happy with the results so far.  I know the results of the thigh lipo/ debulk will not be until 6 months out, and right now they are lumpy and bumpy with scar tissue.

It has happened as far out as 5 weeks with one other on this board. We have so many internal stitches and it takes about 8 weeks or longer for them to properly knit together. It is for this reason my doctor didn't want me swimming for 8 weeks. Have you contacted your surgeon? I am sorry this happened to you!

I haven't contacted my ps yet but will on Monday if it doesn't start to heal or gets bigger. Good call about the swimming. I guess I will have to delay my dip in the ocean over the 4th.

Mine tore open at the 4 week mark when I shifted in bed. I had another small opening around the 6 weeks mark for no reason. My doctor said it was common. My tear healed within 2 weeks. My small hole disappeared within a week. I was told to put Xeroform gauze on it.

I have a feeling they I might have opened it in bed too. Getting comfortable (side sleeper) is still the most frustrating for me. I sleep with 2 very soft pillows under me. I will try not sleeping on my right side for a few nights.

Thx!

My doctor says openings happen between weeks 3 and 5 - so it sounds normal. He says it will appear fine then suddenly it opens...we are healing from the inside out.

I spit stitches and had some spots open back up. They closed up very nicely and I would never know now from looking at the areas.
