Does Blue cross of alabama pay for pannus Removal
I have Blue cross Blue shield of Alabama... It states that it covers management of excess skin with certain criteria. I want to make sure that I do everything right, as far as documentation goes. I still weigh over 200. I have not lost anything in six months.I have lost over 100 pounds. The skin hangs way below the pubis, and it is painful at times. Rashes, and hygiene issues. Is there certain ways things need to be worded? I have not made and app. with a plastic surgeon yet, but my primary Dr. gave me a letter to take when I go. Not really sure what the process is and my Dr. was not either. Any feed back would be great.
Thanks
Heidi

I have Blue Cross Blue Shield (New England) and they are covering my abdominalplasty. Of course, I had to appeal once and they initially said they would only cover the panniculectomy, but when I pushed back on the criteria, they upgraded me. :) The criteria for my insurance is "recurrent rashes and/or non-healing ulcers", which my primary care documented for me. I also had to show that my weight was stable for a period of time (though they didn't specify how long), Your best bet is to begin getting treated now for any rashes or sores. It will be important to show that it is an ongoing problem.
Best of luck to you and remember, if they don't approve you the first time, appeal!
