Seroma hell

I swear I must be living in seroma hell. A few weeks ago my surgeon had to reinsert a drain into my seroma since aspiration wasn't solving the issue. Well, after having the drain in for about five days, the stitches worked their way to the top of my skin, broke through, and out came the drain. The fluid reaccumulated, and so yesterday my surgeon had to insert another drain and sent me out for an ultrasound because my one huge seroma, turned into TWO seromas! The radiologist who did the ultrasound inserted another drain into the second seroma, and today, less than twenty four hours after having that drain put in, it's come out on its own!!! I don't know if I've ever mentioned that I probably wouldn't be dealing with any seroma issues if my two original LBL drains didn't come out on their own in the first place. So far, I have had a total of seven drains since my surgery. Two were removed at three weeks post op, due to low output. The remaining two, which were putting out a lot still, came out on their own about a week after that. Two weeks later I had a drain put in due to the seroma, and that came out on its own. I had two drains put in yesterday by two different people, and one of them has come out already!!!! I'm soooo frustrated.... Is it possible that my body is somehow rejecting the drains?!  It's not like the drains got snagged on anything, they literally just came out on their own. Four out of seven drains, have managed to come out on their own since surgery.... What the heck?!  Sorry for repeating myself multiple times, I am just so frustrated with this whole ordeal.

It does sound like Seroma Hell! I am so sorry! I didn't read this or missed it but are these drains sutured in? My drains where sutured in fairly well. One suture broken away from the skin and gig loose. I knew it would fall out prematurely and it did. What does your doctor say about your drains? That just doesn't make sense. You poor thing!

Yes, they are sutured in really well, but for whatever reason, my body just seems to be finding whatever way it can to reject them. My surgeon has been great though, and wants to take the least invasive approach for as long as possible. He said the two seromas together are large enough that in order to remove the seroma pockets surgically, it would likely require a hip to hip incision. The next step that we're looking at is inserting some kind of sclerosing agent, to make everything inflamed and hopefully get the walls of the seromas to stick together. It sounds painful, and I'm wondering if anyone here has any experience with that.

Isnt it frustrating, ive had my drain inserted about 4 times after my first surgery to drain fluids plus a second surgery. Seems that my body keeps building fluid from the mesh that was put in for my hernia repair when i had my TT in February. im so sick and tired of these drains but i hope this is the last and final time i will need one. Hang in there, i know its a pain in the butt!

That's no fun :(  I hate that you're having to go through all of this mess as well. Hopefully this will be your last drain! I'll be keeping my fingers crossed for you.
