After one appeal, my insurance (Blue Cross Blue Shield) approved me for an abdominalplasty. Initially, they only agreed to a panniculectomy, but when I questioned them about their criteria, they upgraded me. Interestingly, my doctor submitted evidence of the SAME issues in my thighs that resulted in approval for my abdominalplasty (recurring rashes and non-healing ulcers), yet the thigh procedure was denied. I have yet to figure that one out. In my experience, the decision making is VERY subjective and it is in your best interest to push, question and keep re-submitting. With regard to my thighs, my own primary care doctor explained that those are almost never approved, so I am self paying for that. Apparently it is very difficult to prove that thigh rashes cause functional impairments.

I am having several things done at once (lower body lift, buttock augmentation and medial thigh lift). The thigh lift portion was about $4000.

Wow good luck, I know you get better prices when the procedures are combined, I had my breasts and arms done together , but the body lift was done alone because it would have been to much time on the table to have another procedure at the same time, my PS does not want me on the table for more than 6 hours.  well I am going to send in the appeals and try my luck, thanks again

Every surgeon's office I email say they have never heard of insurance paying for an arm lift or thigh lift, BUT I hear a few people on here saying they were approved so idk what to think. I guess it wouldn't hurt to just try?
