Newb question about excess skin and goal

Personally, I think the closer you are to a "normal" bmi, the less the skin weighs. I was about 150lbs at my TT (at 5'9") so my skin was completely deflated. He removed 4lbs. I didn't really lose anything from that overall.

I think if you get to or near your goal, you probably won't lose enough skin weight to have to worry about it.

Erica, I couldn't agree with you more!  I do think that the closer you are to a normal BMI, the less the skin weighs.,  Some doctors won't do ps on anyone with a BMI higher than 30 because the chance of complications are greater.

My surgeon told me it isn't the skin that weighs anything - its the fat layer under the skin. So the less fat you have, the lighter it is.

There is a lady in our group going for an early panni (before goal) as a staged procedure due to excessive skin that affects her mobility etc. I'll bet she has a lot of weight removed because she still has fat in that area - and she will most likely be a high risk case. But in her case it is needed for medical reasons.

I had my first TT before I was at a BMI of 30, only because of my chronic back pain.  My PCP said, I needed to do something because I couldn't live on pain meds.  I had to take extra precautions to have a good outcome, i.e. no open wounds, DVT prevention and etc because I did have a lot of fat left.  My drains stayed in longer.  If you have more fat, you will drain more than someone who has no fat.
