How long do you have to maintain your goal weight before plastics?

1)  How long were you at your goal weight before having plastic surgery?

2)  Anyone out there that had plastics done w/in a couple of months of reaching your goal?

I still have a long road ahead of me seeing my VSG isn't scheduled untl June.  I just know I'll want it done ASAP once I reach my goal and I'm wondering how possible that will be.  Thanks!

I don't think that there are set rules.

I had my arms and a breast lift done when I was about 20 pounds above goal, because I was done losing in those areas.

I had my tummy tuck about 15 months after I got to goal because I wanted the best results. So, I worked for a year to strengthen my core and saved up during that time and then had it done.

I am not sure others will agree with me, but I think waiting at least 6 months at goal is a good idea.  I know it's difficult.  Losing the weight I have, I had to start my plastics after the first 250 lbs lost.  My results suffered because I lost more and I have had to have revisions and will have to have more revisions.

Anyway, I have a good friend.  He has lost 200lbs.  When I saw him right when he hit goal, his face was pretty bad.  I thought, he really needed a facelift.   I saw him about 8 months later and asked if he had his facelift BECAUSE his neck had tightened up a lot and he didn't look so bad.  He hadn't had any surgery on his face yet.  AND he really won't need it now.  I think it all depends on how much weight you carry and where.  But if you don't have a lot of weight in specific areas, I think that getting to goal and allowing your body to tighten as it will - by working out, you might be able to avoid some procedures.

I read that most PS protocol (or insurance) is steady maintain weight for certain amount of time after weight-loss. That being said I am not at goal weight nor was I at time (08/08/11) of my TT - I had major rash under belly (also C-scar) and even with many creams it would not heal.
I went in weighing 83K on my 152cm(5ft) and three kilo was removed. I now weigh 76K and I do not unfortunately exercise.

I think most surgeons want you at goal for at least a year. Even a 10-15 pounds flux in weight can mess up the results. That being said, I had my arms done immediately after reaching goal (I hated them and figured they would not change much if my weight changed a little) but I did wait about 18 months before having my lbl/bl. I definitely did not want to mess up those results. Good luck!!

I was told I needed to wait a year!  Was a chicken so waited a lot longer.  Having mine done 11 June almost 4 years out!

My situation is a little bit different because I lost my weight VERY slowly (without surgery). From start to fini**** took me about 4 years to lose 115 pounds. Once I was within 5-10 pounds of my goal, I began researching cosmetic surgery and that took another 6 months. By the time I have my procedures (this coming July) my weight will have been stable for a year or so. I think the most important thing is that you have completely solidified your new habits and you feel secure in maintaining a healthy lifestyle.

Thanks so much. :) I know I technically don't "belong" on this forum since I didn't have weight loss surgery but from what I've seen and experienced, I think our common experiences outweigh (so to speak) any differences. Interestingly, my sister DID have gastric bypass and though she successfully lost the first 60 pounds, she continues to struggle with negative habits and hasn't completed her journey. It just goes to show that there is no magic solution.
