TT and possible hernia?

If you pay for a full tummy tuck and the surgeon finds a small hernia, do they just sew it up and move on? Or do they make you pay a lot more because they find a hernia? In 2011 I had a hernia repair (after 2 c-sections in the same spot) and now I think I have another hernia in the same spot. Anyone had any expirience with this?

I am having a general surgeon come in and remove my mesh from my previous hernia and repair two more hernias after which my plastic surgeon will do the muscle repairs and a Fleur de Lis tummy tuck.  I am paying my plastic surgeon out of pocket but hopefully my insurance will cover the hernia surgery.

I have had multiple consults.  I think I might possibly have a small hernia.  I asked the surgeon's office that same question.  I was told I should have it diagnosed beforehand.  If there is a hernia and it is repaired during my LBL. it will be an additional $5,000.  So needless to say, I need to rule out that possibility beforehand.

I had a fleur de lis TT two years ago and a very small hernia was suspected(3 drs. couldn't tell!) beforehand.  They did find a tiny umbilical hernia but didn't think it needed repair.  Last week I had TT revisions by another dr.  These were big revisions on both the vertical and horizontal incisions.  The dr. found the hernia was very large and repaired it.  Insurance paid for the revisions and no mention has been made at all about paying anything for the hernia repair.
 Good luck with your surgery!

May 16, 2012 will be one year post op from my VSG. This past August, I started noticing this huge knot on my lower abdomen/apron. The more weight I was losing, the bigger it was getting. I mentioned it to my doctor during a check up and he smirked and told me "you have a hernia and just found your reason to have your skin removal covered." Apparently, when i had an emergency C section in 2002, I was cut vertical causing this hernia and lots of scar tissue, and i never really knew it with the amount of weight i was.. I just went to my one year appointment today and 2 weeks ago saw my plastic surgeon who will be doing the hernia repair as well as I am guessing Panniculectomy/abdominoplasty (I am still new to this and doing research on platics, i dont even know if there is a difference between the two surgeries..I just know i am having the apron removed) According to what I have been told, because of the hernia, the surgery fee, hospital fee, and 80% of the surgeon fee will be covered by insurance leaving a small bill for the skin removal..but even that can be fought with insurance..I am working on my insurance aproval now.  I lost 100lbs in 1 year. I still have about 35lbs to go to get to my goal, but exercise has been almost impossible with the pain that i am experiencing with the hernia..it's like jabbing knives into my groin, and alot of pressure and popping feelings when i cough, sneaze, over exert myself..and even when i go to the bathroom, i feel like it's going to pop.. It's a big concern now with both of my surgeons..

Dr Sauceda has been known to hand sew hernias before a TT or LBL.  So some PS fix the hernia if it's there.
