Starting to investigate plastic surgery - is a bariatric specialist important?
I did choose a plastic surgeon specializing in body sculpting after massive weight loss. He did an excellent job with muscle sculpting in my fleur de lis abdominoplasty and brachioplasty.
Do your research. Ask for # of cases they do in a month/year and ask to see pictures of previous procedures from patients. Ask for recent pics within the last 18 months or so.
Can also check with medical state board to see if any complaints/suits against the surgeon.
You can click on my name or avitar pic to see my before and afters.
Best wishes, Penny

I think it also depends on how much you have lost, as well as your age and the general condition of your skin. For instance, I am lucky to have very forgiving skin. My TT surgeon says that it's not going to be a big job. She has done some WLS patients, but does not really advertise herself as an expert with WLS patients.
I think that most cosmetic surgeons have done their share of WLS patients these days, but if you have a large amount of skin that needs to be removed, you would probably have better results when going to a surgeon who has a lot of experience with WLS patients. Also, many WLS patients have healing problems due to nutritional issues/bloodwork problems, and experienced surgeons would be more familiar with those types of issues.
