I used a silicone lotion forget the name but my plastic surgeon reccomrnded it and sold it in his office about  80$ for one large tube after it was gone I used straight cocoa butter the nurse at my ps office suggested that my scars are virtually invisible two years later my surgeon says it is partially genetic so everyone is different ask your surgeon do what he reccomrnded best wishes to you

On the plastic surgery shows I see them use a very wide tape to keep the scars flat and fading. I also wondered where to get them. I am going to look on amazon because they seem to have everything...lol..
My surgery is on June 12th and I am nervous. How about you?

I used scar away silicon tape from Amazon after my thyroid was removed.  I have the long strips, also from scar away, and i will start using them after my six-week post op appt on Saturday.  Surgeon said not to use them any earlier because they could cause irritation if there were spots that weren't quite healed.

I am using silicone strips on my arms. Its pretty expensive so not sure how long I will use it for. But I bought it on amazon. I got the large sheets and cut it into small strips. They are reusable for a whille. I am using the mepiform brand. I can't tell you how much they helped because I just started using them. I started around 6 weeks. I do know you need to have your insicions healed with no scabs before you use anything on them. I m using vitamin e on my tt and thigh scars. I also read cocoa butter I good. I think I will alternate cremes and oils as I run out. I hear gently massaging also helps.

I heard from my WLS surgeon that massage is really the most important part. Dr. Sauceda also said that massage is important but the strips might be easier because we forget to massage.

I do have the pain in the butt strips and need to get back to them.  I also use a Palmers silicone serum.  Sometimes I use Bio Oil from Costco.

I found a great product locally.  Brand is Natures Gate vitamin e oil. It has a high concentrate of vitamin e. I like it because it's a roll on product so it massages at the same time.  I get the bigger bottles of high concentrate vitamin e (40,000 units) and pour it into the roller bottle.  I go through about a bottle a week applying it 2x a day.  Cost is around $6-7 a week depending where you buy it. I've gotten the refills on amazon or drugstore . com. I look for cheapest shipping.

I've read excellent reviews on SCARprin which is a medical grade silicone gel. It is expensive. I've been using Scar FX strips & I'm not totally satisfied. I do see a difference in the appearance of my scar but the strips lose their stickiness & require the use of tape which is a pain the @ss.
