getting plastics while still overweight

What a fun topic. My surgery is sched for June 12th. Before WLS I was 300 pounds then dropped to 150. At 150 I was sooooooooooo thin that I looked BAD! But, I still had a belly!!! Over the last 4 years I put on 25 pounds and have maintained that for the last year. I am happy with my weight because my fact is not emaciated along with my legs etc. However, my gut is huge!!! I mean huge!!! If it was not for my gut, I could fit into a size 8-10, however, with the gut, it is size 14 for me which leave my legs and non-existing butt drowning in the pants. For the last two years, I have worn nothing but stretchy pants. I can not handle tightness or pressure on my stomach. I had an open bypass (BIG MISTAKE), 2 c-sections and three laproscopic surgeries. My tummy muscles protrude out far and it will not matter if I do sit ups until the end of time, my stomach is what it is. I think about it allot when I am out in public. I am always pulling down my shirt and trying to hide my stomach. I have stick legs and then this big gut and people are always asking me how far along I am , when it the baby due (lol).

So, although I am considered 10 pounds too heavy according to the BMI stuff, it is all in my gut. If I loose the gut, I would not want to loose another pound. I would be very happy. After the gut is done, I will spend the next 18 months paying off "care credit" and then going back for my breast reduction and lift. I would like to eventually get a lower body lift and my arms, however, if all I ever get done is my tummy, I will feel like a million bucks.

I watch allot of those plastic surgery shows and many a time when people that are heavy get the surgery, they get so motivated that they start to diet and loose weight.

It is a personal decision.

Take care,

Teresa

I like this topic and so am going to reply as well. I am currently waiting for my surgery date for a belt lipectomy(lower body lift). I am still not to goal but have been maintaining at this weight for over 9 months. I lost my 120lbs in the first 9 months or so. I have alot of weight around my lower half and so the surgeon was wonderful and said he would do lipo as well when he does the rest. I feel this will help with exercise and freedom of movement as my panni hangs low and heavy as well. I encourage each person to do what is right for them and will be continuing with other cosmetic surgeries once this one is paid off. I am still hoping for good results and sublimate gives me hope!!

I'm 39 years old and 5'10 and I had my circumferential lift and brachioplasty at 203. Coming from a high weight of 405 I am happier than a bird with a french fry at that weight. I had 16.3 pounds of skin removed (but 10 reflected on the scale) I was a size 20 the day of and now I am my DREAM size of 14.

i will be having my thighs and a breast lift in October and at that time we are doing a revision on what has already been done because my surgeon is a bit conservstive and we both see more skin and a better tightening needs to be done. His revisions are not costing me since I am already under anestesia doing the other work.

MY POINT... You have to do what is realistic for you. I am 192 right now and my plans are to get in the 180's and stay there for maintenance.

I'm HAPPY
I'm HEALTHY
I'm REALSITIC.

Thank you guys who gave me the compliments.. they are all due to my surgeon Dr. Behmand! I have a flat stomach and my butt is smaller and I don't have flab around my midsection to lose so that the skin would be saggy again.

Dr. B took it all. So even if I lose more weight, there's really nothing to come off of the midsection. So mostly the rest of the weight should come from maybe my back fat which is still a little chubby (which I don't expect will leave loose skin), a little on my arms, but a LOT from my legs/thighs.

My thighs are very large in proportion now to the my slimmer midsection so I'm all motivated to get those down more. But only time will tell what I will look like when I'm done. I may never lose those last 20-40 pounds.

I finally am feeling so fantastic about myself and I'm even going dancing all by myself tonight!  The crowning for me was getting that Zoom whitening on my teeth and botox on my forehead so I can't scowl anymore and my brows are lifted.

One day I want a neck lift, arms and thighs done, but I gotta say I'm really content now, FINALLY, and I'm Ok waiting.  It took me a while to get to this place!

This was the exact question I was coming to this board to ask. (Great minds OP, great minds...)

My Sleeve is scheduled for this Thursday. I'm trying to set in my heart (and my tracker) what I want my goal weight to be. Hard to do when you've been overweight your whole life...I don't have any idea what I look like under 200 pounds. I can't remember a time I was less than that. Grade school I suppose?

I digress.

Hoping some vets can weigh in on this, my question is:

My "dream number" is 135 - it just sounds good, right? Plus it puts me in the middle to slightly lower end of my BMI (5'7 - Female)

But my thought process is this, do I want to set my weight-loss "Goal" at 150 - then my goal for after plastics at 135?

If you go into plastics with a little more fat - doesn't that kinda give the surgeon something to work with as far as sculpting? Like, they can lipo to some extent or put the fat in the right place?

I don't want to look like a boy. I want a butt and hips.

Am I thinking about this all wrong?

Or perhaps another way to ask this question:

Has anyone ever wished they hadn't lost quite "as much" weight before going into plastics?

Is that crazy-talk? Blasphemy?

I say go for it now, girlfriend. You deserve it!! And if you need a revision down the line, deal with it then.

i wanted to thank everyone for their responses. it really helped me. i decided to plan on surgery for february and try to lose whatever i can in that time but either way i'm going to do it. i think it would help me immensely because i have a huge hanging stomach and very large arms. i feel so ugly. i want to at least look normal in my clothes and hopefully make it easier to exercise. thanks again!
