Lets talk hernias!
So, here we go again. While in the process of looking for my doctor I am getting all different reccomendations for my hernia's. I have 3 midline hernia with no blockages. So fairly simple ones ( I guess) Some surgeon's are saying "we suggest you have the repaired first then come back" others say "can repair it at the same time". So I guess I am just asking, did you have a hernia(s) and how was it taken care of?
Thanks!
I had three hernias that I never even knew about until I woke up from my plastic surgery. My surgeon saw them while he was in the OR working on me, and decided that he could take care of them right then and there. I'm so relieved that he did! They obviously werent causing me any problems, because I never even noticed them, but I'm just happy to have had everything done in one surgery. My recovery hasnt been anymore difficult because of the hernia repair, and I only had a little bit of pain in the area that was repaired.
My only guess as far as why some of the surgeons are recommending that you take care of the hernias first, is that maybe they are not comfortable doing the operation themselves, since after all I dont think plastic surgeons commonly do hernia repairs. I could be wrong though. Did they give you any explanation as far as why they would recommend doing it separately?
Hopefully you'll find a good PS that can do the hernia procedure for you at the same time, as I would hate for you to have to go through an additional operation.

I had 3 hernias that I did not even know about (only knew about one) that were incarcerated; they were pulling in some of my bowels and it could have been bad. My doc did them all at once including a bunch of other plastics (see my sig for the full list) and I was in the OR for 14 hours.
Despite it being rough, I'm so glad I did it all at once! I wouldn't have wanted to go through multiple surgeries and recovery periods. I'm so glad I got to get the hernias and the LBL at the same time especially. Wouldn't want to go through the abdominal surgery twice.

Sublimate,
You and are very simliar in body type. I think you look great! I hope my outcome can be that good =)
I guess the differences are some PS just don't do general surgery. Some will have another doctor come in do that part during the same procedure and others say deal with it first. I don't want to be under the knife more than necessary. I have 4 more consults between now and May 1st. Can't do Dr. S in Mexico due to follow up care issues.

Hernias are VERY often fixed by Plastic Surgeons. In fact, I am having a full abdominal reconstruciton done by a plastic surgeon because he is THE expert in the component separation repair I need. I don't understand why a plastic surgeon would say to get the hernias fixed before but if they do then they are NOT the right one for you. Find ones that specialize in abdominoplasty. They will be able to fix your hernias well.
Good Luck!
Good Luck!
Yeah, I am pretty much bypassing those that tell me to do it first. It really is not in best interest to have more surgery than necessary. This tummy tuck in one surgery in many I have ahead of me! Thank you for your responce ) I am getting excited I have 4 good consults left. If those don't work out well then time for me hunting, lol.
