Post surgery meds and stomach
Hope someone out there knows about safety of meds after plastic surgery for WLS patients. I forgot to ask my bariatric dr this last time but have had my Rx filled for my TT/BL/BA to be done on Monday. Besides Keflex, Percocet & TranScop, he prescribed Robaxin (a muscle relaxant). I am not sure it is safe for a RNY patient or not. I did have a gastroscope last Monday for some burning but am just taking Axid & Carafate daily. Don't want another complication to add to the issue. Is it really necessary to take a muscle relaxant for TT or were you able to get through it without it? Can't really find anything about a contraindication but not really sure if I want to take the chance. Anyone have experience with this?
If you were prescribed a single dose or a small dose of Robaxin and told to take it before surgery then this was done so that you could relax and get a good nights sleep before the surgery. Some folks are extremely stressed out and need something to calm them the night before. I was given such a prescription, I just skipped it and went with the usual level of stress.
I was given a muscle relaxant for three days post tummy tuck. It was a HUGH help! All if your muscles are very tight post surgery and this helped so much...I would take it along with the pain meds. He doesn't give it for more than 3 days because of the chance of urinary retention. It helped tons and I would not hesitate take it.
Good luck to you

I was not given a muslce relaxer after my TT/LBL/BA but given the back issues I went into surgery with, it might have been nice. I think the only thing you really need to be careful of is oral anti inflammatory meds (NSAIDs) unless you have other allergies. I had to keep reminding the folks at the surgical center about that often.
