Friend Requests

I guess I just need to say this out loud.

I get a lot of friend requests, as I suppose everyone does.  I tend to be uncomfortable friending people who don't have an avatar, or pictures of themselves up on their OH profile.

I have pics that I consider sensitive on my profile.  If I'm willing to show my face, I want others to do so as well.  I know, it's a crap shoot as far as posting who we are.

I generally write back and say I won't friend you if you are unwilling to post at least a face pic.

Am I the only crazy one with this?

I think you are smart to do that. I haven't posted any pics yet so I am or sure how I pan on handling it. I would think that most people would understand.

I don't think that's an unreasonable request. If there's no avatar... I usually make sure that there is some substance to their profile. ie they have a story what their trying to accomplish, etc...

 Hi Lee,
I get your point, and I understand your hesitation, but I am such a private person and leery of all things put on the internet, I am even more hesitant to put up a picture even as an avatar. At the same time, I'm hoping by the time I get some work done, I'll be as brave and bold and wonderful as you and others are in sharing their private, private images and info.

Years of being overweight for me added a lot of shame of my image. I'm working on getting over it. But I'm not there yet.

We've all got to do what we feels best for us.

But I totally DO appreciate your sharing. And you look amazing. And following your posts and journey in Monterrey has been super inspiring.

I don't think you're crazy at all. All my pics so far are me clothed, so I'm not as cautious as you. But, once I have PS pictures up, they will def. be password-protected, so I don't have to de-friend anyone I don't know very well. I'm not a paranoid person, but there are definitely trolls out there. I never encountered them here or on the VSG board, but I have seen them on the main board for sure.

OMG Lee, I could have written this post!
Been trying to find a nice way to write it.

I have also recvd many requests to view my pics.

But I don't friend people who don't have pics...or an avi or whatever.

It is all sensitive to all of us.
It is a matter of degree.
I am eternally grateful to all who put themselves out there.
It has helped me greatly thru this journey.

But the way I look at it, it goes both ways.

Don't ask me to do and share what you are not willing to do and share.

Just my humble opinion.

Lee, you are not crazy at all! There are a lot of bad people out there who could just come here and make a blank profile and obtain permission to see our pictures without any intention of sharing theirs. I am not going to friend anyone without an avatar and a profile with some substance. I have dated guys in the past who have mentioned that they came here looking for my pictures! Yuck! I feel people have to be willing to share if I am going to share. And yes, I know they can post anything, there is no guarantee that the pictures on their profile are really them. But I trust most and accept a friend request if they have been posting on the forums for a while.

I understand, but I am technologically challenged and would probably post a picture if I could. There is part of me that really doesn't want to, because of the type of work that I do, and privacy issues.

Hear, hear.  Although I did post a picture in the thread I started on my 6 month day from surgery.   I tried for an hour one night to get a photo the right size for an avatar and finally gave up.

hi Chana

I justed resized a photo (not of people) for my avatar. I right clicked on it, hit resize, then I went to change the pixels and it would not let me change them to 100 x 100 until I noticed two choices right below, the one of the left was clicked in and I needed to change it to the button on the right. then I typed in 100x 100 for the pixels and it worked!!!!!!!!!!!
