Question Everyone? OT
Ok most of you know my situation with complications from surgery and i had a question about disability benefits. I have had problems with my ventral hernia since september 2011, had a surgery last year in june to repair it and it came back even bigger. I recently just had a human cell hernia mesh along with tummy tuck but the complication comes from the hernia mesh which ive had 2 in the last 3 years that rejected from my body. the current one shows on ct scan fluid build up and infection around it which i was just released from the hospital for last week. Anyway, my question is that do you think i can apply and be eligible for short term disabilty through social security, i have enough work credits as i have worked for the last 20 years?? Its very hard for me to work being ive had so many complications with surgeries in the past 3 years. My last job i had to take 3 leaves of absence due to hernia repairs. Eventually the last time i decided to resign because i was off work my than i was there.
Now im limited to walking bending even sitting, cant drive and yes Pain from time to time thats controlled with pain meds.
Im just wondering if anyone had any insight on my situation?
Thanks
Val

There is no such thing as short term disability through SSA. You're either disabled or your not. However, if approved, you may be entitled to a 9 month trial work period to see if you able to work. This means you could work and collect benefits at the same time.
In order to collect benefits, you have to be disabled a full six months and before you would start receiving benefits. Also, it could take several months (or even years) for your disabilty to be approved and you to start receivng payments.
All you can to is apply and see what happens.
