Did the person that went with you the day of surgery stay at a hotel that one night or did they just drive home???  We live about an hour and a half away and my husband was going to stay in a hotel just because of the cost of gas but I'm finding that any nice hotels are really, really, really expensive.  It bugs me.  You gotta pay to park everywhere you go and most of the hotels in the city are nasty and in a bad area of town.

We live about an hour away in Northern Va, but my mom who does not live here went with me. No way was she going to tackle 95/495...lol
She stayed at the Holiday Inn Express 1701 Russell St.Baltimore, MD 21230. It is just off of 95 right before you get to Orioles Stadium. Very easy access to the hospital. I believe it was around $80.00 or so for the room and we did have to pay for parking, I believe $20.00.
I am just guessing he will be a the hospital the 6 or so hours you will be in surgery plus recovery before he leaves. With all of that time in the hospital, and hour and a half drive home and back, and back home again.....with the price of gas and that much time on the road it will probably be worth it to stay in the hotel. Unless you have a Yugo (I miss those ugly little cars in times like these!) I would definitely go for the hotel. Then he can get his rest to. It is exhausting sitting in the hospital all day.

I will check into this hotel.  I don't think I looked at this one.  And we have a Ford Explorer so yeah the price of gas will kill us.  Thanks for the info!!!

i live in md and am afraid to go to a discount place. the results are more important than price. do you think you'll get the same results w/ them vs a full time fully trained surgeon? kinda scary. do they do revisions for free?

Honestly, it is hard to say. It is the Chief Resident doing the surgery, but they are supervised by an attending. I have been lurking on this board for a couple of years and I have seen many people who had surgery with a Board certified high priced boctor who have had to have revisions. It is not always about the doctor, it has a lot to do with the person and their skin. I feel like I could be tighter and may look into a revision but I know that at the time of surgery I could not have been pulled any tighter. They told me the skin would loosen up after the swelling goes down, especially since I have some stretch marks above the belly button.
With the Thigh lift I was supposed to have the long scar down to my knee and I was already marked up by the Chief for that, but when the attending came in he thought I could get a good enough result with just the cresent cut and pulling it up. He knew I was having arms done at some point and said if I was not happy with the result he would do the long thigh lift at that time with no charge.
I am sure any revision would be free from physician charges but you will always have to pay hospital and anesthesia.
I am 3 months out this week. I will be taking pictures and posting later this week. You can see what I mean about my loose skin. It is 1000 times better than before, but I thknk it can be tweeked a little.

I have an appointment April 2nd.  I am also skeptical of having surgery by a resident, but after reading this blog I feel a little more at ease.  I went for a consult with Dr. Forman in Bethesda and quoted 10000+ for extended TT.  That included surgery, anesthesia, doc fees, and one night hospital stay. I will need to finance my surgery and was going to use care credit. do you know if UMD will accept that? If not, i will have to find another way to make it happen.

I don't think they accept the care credit.  I looked into that but the Unv of MD was not listed as one of the participating providers.  You might want to call them about it, to be sure.  Can I make a suggestion though?  You might want to do a 401K loan, if you have one and can take a loan.  When I called my bank about some options, they recommended to refinance our home, take a home equity loan, take a secured loan and use one of our cars as collateral or get a personal loan but that's got higher interest rates.  None these were in our best interest so we decided that the 401K loan was the best.  It's got a small interest rate and weekly payments that we can afford.

Is this a consult appointment you have on the 2nd?  I had my consult appointment with
Dr. Stanwix, but will meet with Dr. Lori Howell on the 3rd just to confirm what will be done.

I am scared, anxious, etc.

Also, I see by your pic that you have a BT.  I just love them.

Yes, the 2nd is for my consult.  I am anxious to see the price difference. Hopefully much more affordable.

I do have a BT and he is great. He is three and we are thinking of adding another to the family.
