Got my first consult scheduled
Hard to believe but I have been researching three specific plastic surgeons that I think would do a good job for me. I decide to book an appointment with my top pick and their office just now called me and said that they could see me on April 4th. If he does not disappointment me, this is who I would prefer my surgery with. I am keeping my fingers crossed.
I'm doing really well. No pain at all since surgery except for a sore throat from being tubed for six hours of general surgery. I've only taken Tylenol since surgery, and have not taken anything at all in several days. Just a little uncomfortable trying to rest because you need to elevate your head, so I've mostly been sleeping in the recliner.
My doctor insists that everyone stays until all stitches are out, and the potential for complications at 15 days is reduced. He does guarantee satifaction of his work, but I would have to fly back to Costa Rica for revisions. That being said, I've had many surgeries over my lifetime, and rarely (if ever) have to see the surgeon beyond getting my stitches out, so I decided it was worth the risk to travel for surgery.
NO fear at all, even though I've never been on an airplane before, and never been out of the country in my life. I had surgery at CIMA hospital, which seemed identical to having surgery at some of the best U.S. hospitals, other than the fact that most of the nurses had accents, lol. I feel safe and comfortable here, and it's nice being with others who are also going through the same recovery period. Interesting watching how different people recover at different rates.
Most everyone here speaks English, and I've had no problem at all communicating. Spent the day at the mall where my surgeon's office is located today, and we went shopping for gifts, had a great lunch, and went to the supermarket. So much fun!
I leave Costa Rica on Tuesday. It's only a four hour flight for me, so no big deal. All in all, it's been a great experience for me, and I've made lots of new friends.
