Post Surgery question

Anyone have a tummy tuck and end with tissue necrosis?  If so, how was it treated and how long did it take you to heal?  I am 6 weeks post op and had 2 necrotic areas that resulted in open wounds.  The one in my lower abdomen is healing well and is almost closed.  The one below my navel is not.  My surgeon has debrided it 3 times and expects that he will have to do it again. After the last debridement the wound was big enough to put my thumb in!!!!.

Any info or input would be greatly appreciated.

I dont have any information on the subject. I just wanted to say I am sorry you are dealing with this. I am only 3 weeks out myself and know this is one of my biggest fears. I hope some people here can give you information that will ease your mind.

I was lucky that my open wounds didn't get necrosis but they were large open wounds (over an inch deep and 3 inches in length).  It took 10 weeks to almost completely fill in the large wound.  It was frustrating because I would feel that there was no improvement until I would take a new photo to send to my surgeon and then compare that photo to the old ones.  It just is slow going at first.  I was surprised because once the wound got to a certain point, it just suddenly filled in over 4 days.

Are you packing the wound twice a day?  I did this myself for the wound on my abdomen and had my husband do the one on my backside.  Made a huge difference in helping to keep the wound free of slough and avoid multiple debridements.  I only had to have it debrided the first time. Of course, I had no necrosis so that could be the reason.

Good luck and although this is tough, remember that it DOES heal and close up.  You can see pictures of my wound on my profile. I havent added the new completely healed photos yet but I assure you - the wounds healded!

Thanks for the info. It is helpful to know someone else has gone through it and how they managed it. My larger wound looks a lot like yours only somewhat bigger.  I do know it will heal eventually, but sometimes it is a drag and the debridement is not fun.

Again, thanks for sharing.
