hanging arm skin versus scar

Never a question for me.

People were gonna see something...either a large flapping arm or a long scar.

I chose the scar without hesitation.

I'm debating this same question. My only surgery was the RNY and my 5 incision scars are keloids, raised and red....almost a year out. Of course I didn't treat them with anything b/c when I have my tummy done, they will be gone. But I'm nervous about the arms. I can wear a short sleeve shirt now, but if I get the surgery and the scar is to my elbow and it's keloid, I will NEVER wear short sleeves. I might just live with the flapping. It's not THAT bad.

Just a note, I had the TT with FDL and none of my lap RNY scars are gone. They are all there. Just much lower than they used to be since the skin was pulled down.

I'm fine with lower scars!  They're already pretty low.

I am 10 days out from getting them  done so it's too early to know how much my scar will fade. The only scars I really had before my surgery were from lap band. And I would actually have to point them out to people. I am hoping these ones do as well. I had the thinking that on the occasion I wear sleeveless 90 % of the time they will be hidden, except when I lift them overhead. I think the descion is easier the worse your arms are.

Definitely the scar!  I have not yet had surgery, but it's definitely in the works.

My batwings hang out of a short sleeve top and flap like crazy.

I'm 10 months out from brachioplasty and fleur de lis abdominoplasty.  I am so glad that hanging skin is gone.  You can click on my name or avitar picture to see before and afters.

I am older (62) and don't know how much I will go sleeveless this summer, but my arms look great in clothes.  It would be difficult to buy the size top I need for my small frame if my arms were still big from hanging skin.

The brachioplasty was a quicker recovery for ME (mileage may vary for others) than the abdominoplasty.

Best wishes.

I'm three weeks out from the arm lift. I had moderate flap but elected to go for the scars on both my arms and thighs rather than leaving the sagging skin left over from my weight loss journey.  As an earlier poster so smartly pointed out, the psychological effect of getting rid of that sagging skin can be amazing.

I have a couple of chicken pox scars on my face from when I was in the third grade. They bothered me when I was a teenager, but what doesnt?  Eventually with those chicken pox scars and now with my LBL scar, I don't even see the scars when I look in the mirror. Certainly the people that love me don't see them as the defining element when they look at me.  The arm scars are well located and not that bad. I think I won't see them once I get used to them much like the chicken pox scars on my face.

As far as other people's reactions to them goes - once my family and friends get used to my new scars it won't be an issue. It will just be part of who I am.  As for strangers...well thankfully there are plenty of people walking around with purple hair, black leather clothing, arms of tattoos, or over use of lip fillers to point to and talk about rather than choosing me and my mostly hidden arm scars as a source of discussion.

Thank goodness we live in a visually expressive society!

My arms were about the same as yours, but I hated them flapping around.  I'm 13mo out now and I can see the scar but it doesn't bother me.  I started dancing at 4 mo out and not one man mentioned my scars.  All turns my arms are up and over my head and mostly I was wearing sleeveless or shortsleeves.  It's not like the rest of my body isn't full of scars too from my LBL, BL, thighs...  It's so much better than having the loose skin.  I'll be going back to get rid of the upper back skin next Jan.

Look back at my post from Feb 13 named Plastics pics.  I will take the scars any day!!!  I love having "normal" arms.
