After PS all I want to do is eat!
Is this normal? I'm hungry constantly now. Is it my body just building itself back up? I had gained 6 lbs from the IV, lost 2 since I got home Friday. I didn't eat much Friday. They brought me chicken, but one bite and I was very nauseous. They gave me chicken soup and I ate the whole bowl. I've been hungry since. At least I'm making pretty good choices, but I'm just surprised at how hungry I am compared to before surgery.
It's going well with my BL/BA, by the way. I have not had pain, just some discomfort when deep breathing or trying to use my arms to adjust myself in the chair or bed. I only took my pain meds at night so I could get a decent nights sleep. I took Tylenol during the day and was fine. I went for a walk yesterday and think I could have walked further, so I'll try that today. I'm glad I only did one procedure at a time. I can't imagine trying to recover from upper and lower surgery at the same time. I know others do it all the time, but it's not for me. :)

hmmm, me too. I had surgery on feb 17 and i did gain weight from all the iV fluids but i know thats normal to expect. Ive been hungrier then before for some reason , maybe its the pain meds making me feel like im hungry? Oh well, im doing better each day with my new tummy , im up walking around and i think a bit too much because yesterday i started having the worst pain ever just like day 1. Taking it easy for now.
What procedure did you have done, sorry im new to this and cant understand the abrevs used here on the forum.

I had a breast lift and silicone implants. They look good...a little misshapen as I had heard they do at first, but not terrible. I can see that the swelling is going down. I can wear my surgical bra, sports bra or any non-underwire bra. I'll have to settle for the surgical or sports bra as I don't think my others will fit, but I didn't try them. I just can't imagine they'd fit now.
Good luck with your tummy tuck recovery...that will be my next adventure, but it will be quite a while before I can afford the payments.

You know I didn't weigh myself for about 10 days..I knew that you gain weight from the IV's and I didn't want to see it!....I was not hungry at all at first..so everyone is different. I did drink a few protein shakes again just to make sure that I get my protein in. I would make sure you drink enough..and have all the protein you need. You body is healing so you do need your food..just make good choices. My metabolism has been higher after surgery but now at almost 6 weeks it is slowing down again and now is when I am hungry..so I need to watch it. I get to go back to the gym at the end of the week...and I can't wait!
Stay off the scale for a week..it will drive you crazy! Up the fluids and the protein and you will be fine...
good luck

I went in for my plastics at 151.5. When I got home from Mexico two weeks later I was 145. Then I dropped a little more and now I'm having to really diet to keep it off.
I wasn't hungry for several weeks after surgery. Maybe because I had so much done and my body was in shock, but most people talk about being hungrier. My hunger did come back and I ate more to fuel for the healing process. At 6 weeks out I was very sad that my metabolism slowed back down to where it was pre-op and that I had to let go of the carbs that I had the luxury of eating for six weeks. Enjoy it while it lasts because you will most likely return to normal. Don't allow bad habits to slip in. My Weigh****cher leader told me it was good my body went back to normal before I had time to get used to old eating habits.

As you can see some folks are hungry after surgery and some are not. I think alot can depend upon people's reaction to pain medication for those that fill no hunger.
Your body is trying to repair itself and needs alot of calories with a mixture of protein, carbs, and fats to help heal. I read that 3000 calories a day is not a crazy amount to be consuming post surgery as your body can be burning more than that as it repairs.
I tried to get as much food in as possible. After the first LBL surgery, I wasn't healing very well but then the pain meds made me not want to eat. My doctor told me to get that food intake up and make sure I wasn't just focusing on proteins (but to try and increase that as well.) I started eating 5 or 6 times a day and saw a big improvement. This second round I began eating well the first day post-op and the healing has been fantastic.
I think eat, eat, eat. You arent going to get fat with what you consume in the next several weeks. Your body needs the energy. Don't worry about the scale. Swelling can make you fluctuate by 5 or 6 pounds in a day if it is bad (from my experience).

Wow, 3000 calories! I can't imagine my tiny tummy taking in that much. I have been careful not to eat junky food, but haven't really worried so much about going over my usual 1500 or so calories. I knew there would be lots of extra fluids. I can see in my hands alone that that has gone down quite a bit in the last 2 days. I've been a good girl and doing my walks. That's the only exercise I'm allowed at this point. Thanks for the reassurance about the body needing more for repair. I guess sometimes the body knows better than we do. :)
