1st consult today

1st PS consult today-the doc told me that there isn't anything that he can do or would recommend to improve the look of my thighs/arms?  me-33 yrs, female, Highest wt-250 before surgery, weight at lap band surgery - 230, current weight-160, thigh- 23 in, arm - 12 in.  I have sagging skin on the arms, stomach, and thighs.  I went in asking about an arm lift and LBL / body contouring.  He said the skin on my arms is in excellent condition & the scar would be worse than the sagging.  Re:thighs - he said they can't be pulled smooth? Thoughts?

He gave me the - "this is what's wrong with America and the obesity rates speech"  Saying that obese patients lose the weight and then expect to look perfect and it will never happen.

I don't want to or expect to look like a super model - I'd just like to flap a little less!

I did ask the office manager afterwards... she said the doc only did 2 or 3 thigh lifts last year and that he is a perfectionist and won't operate on someone he can't make look the way he wants them to look.  He was such an a** though.  He told me I should live with the sagging skin and accept it.

I left in tears, he was so rude.

will try to attach pics.... not sure I know how.

That had to be a horrible experience.  Don't give up, though.  He sounds like the kind you don't want for your doctor anyway.  There are a lot of compassionate ones out there.  Chin up, it is him, not you that is the problem.

I would definitely get another opinion.  You might want to ask before you set up your appt with the next surgeon how many thigh lifts they have done....It sounds like this dr. just isnt comfortable doing that procedure.  Good luck!

What a jerk! You don't want him anyway...

Do research and find someone else.  Go to a few more consults.

Good luck...you will find the right surgeon for you.

Thank you for the encouragement everyone.  He had me so discouraged, I'm sure I'll find the right doc.  I tried to debate the topic with him - I've seen pics online with more sagging skin and the after pics look great.  He just on and on about how the before and after pics online aren't reality.

The office manager gave me the name of another surgeon in the area (yep, she referred me to someone else which is crazy - how could she stay working for him?).

Sounds like you need to find a PS who is experienced with bariatric patients. It takes skill and practice to work with our skin. Perfection isn't attainable, but improvement definitely is possible. The before and after pics always show some improvement.

Who do the bariatric surgeons in your area recommend? Start calling around. There are better surgeons than the one you went to, I promise!!

It's sad but there are lousy doctors with poor bedside manner. I'm sorry you had to endure such a horrible experience. You'll find the right doctor for you, just keep looking.
