SO I read a lot that people are able to get some of their tummy surgeries covered by insurance, or at least partially, due to having a hernia repair at the same time.
How did you know you had a hernia?  What is the test to determine that you have a hernia?

I'm not sure what the answer to this is. When I had my VSG my surgeon saw the hernia and noted it in his documentation. It was from when I had a vertical c-section delivering my son. Hope someone else can answer.

It really depends on how large the hernia is and it's location.  I had one when I had my TT and my doctor fixed it.  I never knew it, he said it was very small.

I have seen some very large ones - those are unmistakable.  They are painful and they stick out like you are pregnant.

Thank you both for replying. I guess I'm just wondering how to find out before, so I could have some of the tummy surgery covered.
