LBL/Thigh Lift & 1 night stay
I had an LBL and BL/BA the week before Thanksgiving with my favorite of the 4 local plastic surgeons I consulted with. I went home just a few hours after the procedure and it was awful. I told the surgeon at the 3 day follow up that I would have easily paid more to stay in the clinic with IV meds and then more time wake up. Even an extra 2-4 hours would have made a big difference.
My surgery was almost 6 hours so it was close the end of the day when I was "finished" in recovery and I think everyone was just ready to go home. I sometimes have difficulty after surgery being cold. When I first woke up I was shaking so badly that I wouldn't let them bring my husband because I knew it would scare him. They gave me Demerol and I felt better almost immediately but I didn't have the time I needed to slowly wake up from the demerol and general and sit up at my own pace until I was ready to be wheeled out.
The ride home was in rush hour traffic and it was miserable. Every bump or jolt of the car. The movement. My sleepiness. All I wanted to do was get home. The good thing is that i stayed at my mom's for 5 days but my boys were there when we got there and I was so uncomfortable that it took all my strength to keep my voice normal and open my eyes every once in awhile until so they knew I was ok.
Staying and my mom's and being prepared beforehand with a walker, pillows, and a stand-up pee device were huge. My mom is a retired nurse and took care of all my drains. In actuality I didn't have much pain between the pain pump, the flooding with anesthetic they did before my incisions were closed, and the round-the-clock oral pain meds. The lbl incisions above my hips hurt the most and made it too painful to lower into a bed so I slept in a deep chair with ottoman and lots of pillows.
I could never have done the drains and the garment stuff for the first 3 days. By the 4th I was doing most things except for the tape by myself. By the 5th I sat to pee most of the time. It was nice to be pampered by my mom. And after a day or two my boys would come over at night and sleep on the floor next to me.
In some ways it wasn't the first week that was the hardest, it was 4-6 weeks later as the scars were healing up and sutures coming out, the twinges and general tiredness that were the most frustrating.
I'm going to have an arm lift and thigh lift next and I'm not sure what I'm going to do. I love the doctor I used but I'm also tempted to go with Dr. Sauceda so I can have a full week of care.
