Laying comfortably
I assume I won't be able to lie flat on my back after my abdominoplasty, based on the fact that I keep seeing / hearing of people who can't straighten up post surgery. So my question is, how did you rest? Propped up? Curled on your side? I'm wondering if I should pick up a wedge pillow to prop me up after surgery...
I slept propped up on pillows and a pillow under each side/arm. 5 weeks post surgery I still sleep this way most of the time.. its very hard to sleep on the incisions, difficult to turn over and get in and out of bed. I wish I had a recliner that would have helped alot. I have lots of pillows in my house so... I just used what I had.. I used a rolled up towel for my neck support..
I would definitely rent a recliner or buy one..Also raised toilet seat helped too..

Laying on my back was the only way I could sleep but It was hard because I also had full back lipo and was totally bruised. Had incisions on my tummy and both sides from the abdominalplasty (extended TT) so sleeping was very hard...it took about 10 days before I could sleep semi comfortable. Even to this day ( 3 1/2 weeks out), it is still hard to get comfortable at times. I use a heating pad and pillows to get comfortable.
Standing up straight is very hard post surgery....it is better now and I can finally stand up straight.

I have a very comfortable recliner that I have been sleeping in since surgery. I had a LBL and BL done on Jan 24th. I have been really comfortable sleeping in my recliner but I also have had a very easy time recovering from the surgery. My biggest issues were with my drains and keeping up with them.
I could probably be sleeping in my bed right now but my son sleeps in our bed and is a very restless little guy so I would prob end up being kicked therefore prob not a good idea.
The recliner is comfortable and I did't have any issues getting in to and out of it even my first day home.

I been sleeping in one of my recliners on my sectional. Just put a folded in half comforter on it an push all the way back. I can sleep on my sides or back comfortably in the sectional. I tried last week in my bed an I would wake up every time I moved. I'm 5 weeks out Thursday an I don't think I will try the bed again till next week at the 6 week mark. Its more my numb & on end nervy sides from LBL then the actual incisions. Good luck its all about finding a way to be comfortable an realizing every thing does not have to be perfect. Your healing, take it easy an let the small stuff slide for the time being an ask for help
I couldn't get comfortable in my recliners. When I first got home, I have to have my head and feet propped up. These days I sleep on my back with a pillow under my knees. I can completely straighten out without discomfort. I'm able to roll on my sides for about a half an hour at a time, but if I fall asleep in that position, I usually wake up with my arm asleep.
I didn't think about renting a hospital bed. I'm not sure where I'd put it in the house, but it was definitely easiest to sleep in the adjustable bed in the hospital.

I slept with my back propped with a wedge pillow, a pillow under my knees, pillows under each arm and a donut pillow under my rear (almost got bed sores till I figured this last one out).

I slept 5 nights in a clinic bed that I could raise the back and lower the legs. After that I started sleeping in a flat bed. It was a bit of an owie because of the fat transfer to my tushie. I could really feel the difference laying flat. It was more difficult to get up because I couldn't use my arms, but was really doable.
I slept on my bac****il day 10 at which time I was cleared to sleep on my side. I have a very soft pillow that I put between my knees so that my thigh incisions don't rub together, particularly at the knees where my drains came out. I still need it every night even at 8 weeks out. I haven't tried sleeping on my tummy yet as I'm afraid of squishing my new lifted breasts. That's next though as I really miss it! Maybe tonight. :)
