Seroma with BR/BL
I had surgery Dec 21, 2011. Went in last week with a lot of swelling, which was actually a seroma on both sides under my arms, side boob area, which is where he most of the tissue out. He drained 360 cc's from one side and 80 cc's from the other. I went in yesterday and, while he says is isn't as bad, to me to looks worse. I am currently waiting for a call for an ultrasound to place a drain. Just as some background. I had two drains, which were pulled the day after surgery before I left the hospital. I think the seromas are so bad because I wasn't told how to properly wear the compression garments, ok, how long to keep wrapped up in ace bandages. I wore them for almost a week and that's about it. At night I even went without anything at all after about two weeks. Wish I had had a little more input from Dr when I asked. Moral of the story... Compression, compression, compression...
My surgeon had me in compression (calf to elbows) 24/7 for six weeks. You can see from my signature that I had a lot of procedures at once. I had one garment that was for my arms and breasts. I too had BL/BR. There really wasn't much compression in the breast area. My garment had soft cotton material covering the breasts. The compression part was in the arms. I had tight compression from right below my breasts down to my calves.
At around six weeks out, I developed a golf ball size, hard seroma at my left knee. My doctor told me that this will reabsorb on it's own.
I think that my breast drains were only in for a few days. The other 9 drains came out at various times in the healing process. At three weeks, I took out two drains myself (1 leg, 1 abdomen) because I came home from Mexico at the two week mark.
It's amazing to me that some surgeons don't give better follow-up care to their patients.
I'm sorry that you're having to go through this. Hang in there as I'm sure it will get better!!

Can't blame the surgeon.
I was compressed from the get go...day and night...extra tight.
I have a persistant seroma in my right arm.
It happens.
