Do we need to increase calories after PS?
I know protein is very important for healing, but I have heard calories as well. I am very calorie sensitive and do not want to increase. I won't be doing my daily 4 mile walk for a while so I figure not burning those calories, I can break even? Any words of wisdom?

It seems to vary from person to person. I know I was eating at least 3000 calories a day for the first couple months post-lbl/bl (up from my usual 2000/day) without gaining but about the 3rd month I had to cut back. That was the hard part...lol!!

For myself.. I kept my calories the same.. I lost 1 lb the 2nd and another pound the 3rd week.. They dont recommend you losing weight after PS.. I increased my protein to over 100 grams and water over 100 fl oz..
You wont have much of appetite right after surgery.. I really have to focus on my protein.. I am doing 2 protein shakes per day, 2 egg white omeletes per day, and at least 4 oz chicken breast.. 1 glass non fat milk...
I am now adding some more carb just to stay fueled up.. I havent exercised at all.. I walk very slowly...I think the body is temporarily working so hard to heal.. Honestly, I would probably forget to eat some days.. others I could eat a house..

After my WLS, the mantra of protein, protein, protein was burned into my brain. My PS had to give me a bit of a kick in the behind and told me to eat, eat, eat post -op. He said I did need the protein but that I also needed carbs, calories, and fat.
I was very tired and healing very, very slowly at 1 week post op. I increased my caloric intake and expanded the foods range. I added iron supplements + Vit C in addition to Vitamedica supplements.
I began to feel noticably better.
Your body expends alot of energy trying to heal up that massive trauma from the surgery. Make sure you feed it!

I added a couple of protein shakes for 3 weeks before surgery to up my protein to 175-200 grams a day. I also kept trying for 200g for 3+ months after.
