PS Newbie, and confused by consults
Hey guys -
Two questions:
First, I'm completley new to the world of plastic surgery... I've found some PS books and such, but they are often generalized for women and address face lifts and such. Is there a good primer out there somewhere that addresses PS for bariatric patients?
Second, I've had two consults so far. One recommended two procedures, doing the front (panni and ab) and then doing the back later - even though more expensive, he says the pain and healing would be improved. The other consult disagreed, said I should have a lap beltectomy, full body, all the way around in one go. How do I know which strategy is best?

There is the book "Bariatric Plastic Surgery: A Guide to Cosmetic Surgery After Weight Loss" that my surgeon helped write. I think he's one of the best. I will admit I have not read his book.
Different surgeons have different philosophies as far as doing all the way around vs. front than back. Mine does the lbl.
Just keep doing your research and decide which doctor you feel more comfortable with. Good luck with your decision!!

I think it depends on your comfort level. DIfferent surgeons have different opinions! I started and had an abdominoplasty and inner thigh lift with then intent that since I had such large saddle bags it would tak a couple of rounds of lipo to get done what we need. I ended up with some wound healing problems and had to have another surgery to reclose the abdomin.
I then went to talk about the back help AND we ended up doing a full LBL to repair the abdomin. It was nice to stage it for me as it let the surgeon "revise" what needed a little help!

I may have had a few extra potholes along the way, but the journey has been good!

It also depends on insurance and what they will cover. I wanted a LBL, but the insurance would cover panni only. So i am paying the extra for a corsettrunkplasty for now, insurance paying for panni part, I am doing 0% financing for the rest, for a year. I am also paying for hip/thigh lipo. After I get this paid off, I am going to get a LBL/thigh lift and eventually my breasts taken care of. One bill at a time.
So I'm still investigating the insurance angle, but what I've heard (so far) is that insurance might cover a panni, and essentially nothing else. (I"m a guy, so no breast reconstruction for me). I've also been told that insurance probably won't cover my panni since mine isn't "too bad", and isn't big or infected or being abraided. But honestly, I'm ignorant about the insurance process as it might apply to plastic surgery.
You can look at my signature and see the combined procedures I had last month.

I think it's quite unusual for a Dr to suggest dividing up these 2 procedures. I had a TT and years later a butt lift basically the same as a lbl but at different times just because i didn't need both at the original surgery. the TT was painful and not fun but the butt lift was a breeze. I've had friends who had the lbl and they didn't notice any pain other than the TT and that was because like me they had the muscle repair which is a ***** But I've also had friends who had the panni only and the recovery was a lot easier. Hope this helps.
