I know that a ltitle while ago Lee posted about scar care and I said that my PS wanted me to wait for 6 months to start massaging and putting stuff on it.  I asked him about it and I was wrong, he said around 6 weeks, not 6 months :).  He told me that I could use any kind of lotion or silicone gel etc.  I am using Mederma every day a few times a day now.  I will let y'all know if it works in a couple of months :)

Oh good!  I'm so glad you got clarification on what you should be doing.  I'm finding it very soothing to massage Bio Oil into my incisions.  On my face I'm using Scar Away gel that comes in an applicator with roller balls to massage.  I just started using ScarAway pads on my belly button yesterday to make sure that I don't have a reaction before putting it on other places.  I'm also using the roller gel on my nipple incisions because I think it would be hard to get patches to stick there.  I'm waiting on the long silicone ScarAway strips that I ordered online yesterday.  I can see that this is going to take a lot of effort as so much of my body is covered in incisions.

I discovered that ScarAway as well as a few other gels have the highest concentration of silicone so that's what I'm going for.  A friend used Mederma after her shoulder surgery and healed beautifully.   I'm also going to try homeopathic Calendular Gel once a day for massage to get some good vitamins in there on the incisions.

You're so right about the sun.  I've read things that say we should have sunscreen, even under our clothes.  I remember after my VSG I was putting sunscreen on my little incisions under my swimsuit.

I had my gallbladder out three months before my VSG.  I was not told to massage that incision.  I was told to massage the VSG ones and you could barely see them, while the GB scar remained very visible.
