PS & Insurance

I am 7.5 years post op rny.  I've lost 95 lbs. and have finally made an appointment for a PS consult mostly for my abdomen.

Has anyone out there had this covered by insurance.  I get terrible rashes and I have documentation from many doctors.  If I can get this covered I may consider paying out of pocket to do my arms.

When I contacted the Plastic Surgeon's office they said there's a good chance insurance will pay because the tummy tuck would be considered reconstructive and not cosmetic.

I had a face lift consult yesterday.  The PS asked about my lower body.  He said with proper documentation and attention to detail, his office has significant success having insurance pay for TT.  He said they will cover the front of abdomen but not the back area.  He specifically mentioned my insurance, but I'm sure he knows what to do to satisfy other insurance company requirements.  He made it sound like when properly documented, insurance will pay.  He said it is about a 3 month process to complete what insurance requires.  As I said, I don't know if he has more experience with my insurance, but I would think not.  Hopefully those who have had insurance cover part of the costs will respond to your post.  Also, I would do a search on this site regarding this question exactly.

You may have some luck getting a panni approved (skin removal) and then pay the difference for a full tummy tuck ---- but I don't think that most insurance will cover the full tummy tuck

Good luck!
