Majorly Bummed after consult...

Thanks, Ruggie.  Please do send me the names.  I am thinking I might try to "pimp" my nursing skills for trade in services.  I do have plastic surgery nursing experience so that may work.

I am not sure if getting another consult inside the Kaiser system is worth while.  I have a feeling they are standard with what they do and one will be the same as the other.  Don't really have any options when you have Kaiser insurance.

Dr. Hop Le in San Rafael kaiser does stunning work.  I had my sleeve surgeon refer me to him.  I just couldn't afford him, but he has done a lot of post WLS patients.

In the end, I loved going to Mexico for one recovery that included two weeks of daily care.

Thank you all for the replies and support.  I think I was so disappointed because of what I was told when the appointment was scheduled and what some others that actually did get some coverage of their procedures with Kaiser.

My financial situation is not the best right now (recent divorce, a cross country move, a few months of unemployment thrown in there for good measure...lol) and I am living paycheck to paycheck now and will be for a long time to come.  So, I have to be realistic as to the timing of when I could have any surgery and unless I win the lottery (which I do not waste my money on) or get a sugar daddy or an anonomous gift....all of which are further away from happening than hell freezing over...I am going to be living with these imperfections for a very long time to come.  Unfortunately, it is my reality.

If they do not pay, have you considered a residency program at at teaching hospital/med school.

The one patients  in Houston use  gets really good reviews and is quite a bit less expensive.  Maybe there is something like that in your area or not too far?

Take care of you right now and try to get your finances in order so that you can get a loan when things are better for you. I am a single mom of 2 and live paycheck to paycheck. I've paid for 2 very expensive international adoptions and plastics (well, still paying that off), so if I can do it, anyone can.

Where there is a will, there is a way.

The good news is that there is OT at work right now, but it is awarded by seniority and I am #366 out 402 so my chances of getting enough, if any, are slim.  No one is hiring right now so trying to get a per diem job is also very slim.  I can do per diem through an agency, but where they send me to work I net about $10/hr after all the tolls and parking fees, gas, etc are paid.  It is not reliable either.  I have to make myself available and wait for them to call 2 hours before the shift is to start and tell me if I am working or not...most of the time I am not used and then I can't work any where else.  It is very frustrating, to say the least.  My hours are afternoon hours so I would need part time hours that are from like 10am to 2pm because I have to be finished to allow me to make it to work by 3pm.

I will figure it out and in the mean time, I accept the fact that I am what I am.

You WiILL figure it out.  I think that self acceptance is highly underrated.

The thing about plastics post WLS is that we just can't realistically expect perfection. Drastic improvement, you bet, but I won't ever look like a swim suit model.  What I get to look like is a 61 year old woman that exercises hard, eats mindfully and focuses on looking at the positive side of all situations.

I think that self acceptance is the best tool to keep tucked in your back pocket going into all this.

Your day will come and you'll be so ready!

I'm new to the board, so I have nothing to offer except a BIG (((((((hug))))) and hope you are feeling better about things soon.  I love your sense of humor, you had me laughing!    I can picture you standing at an intersection with a tin cup and sign reading "Will work for plastics"

I hear panhandling is quite lucrative.......
