XP: Seroma Time?

I've been feeling pretty good. Starting to feel out of the woods, so to speak.

My left leg (drain came out before right leg) has been slower to heal. A bit of swelling around the ankle but not much. The biggest difference is that I still have some scabs and it just seems a slower healing process.

I just took off my garments to shower and was running my hands along my leg incisions and whala, to the right of my incision line, 2" above my knee is a 2" golf ball feeling thang. From everything I've read, it sounds like a seroma? Not painful, not red, not hot, just bothersome. I checked my body and that appears to be the only one. Friday will be six weeks out for me.

Any experience to share?

Hi Chickadee.

Sure sounds like mine!

Six weeks out seems kinda late for a seroma to make an initial appearance but it does happen.
There is much healing still going on beneath the surface!!

Mine is above my right elbow at the end of my incision.
Been aspirated twice.
Looks like a ping pong ball.
Hard.
Not infected at all...just a bother.
Will see my surgeon Thursday. He is considering sending me for a drain placement if it continues to recur.
Boo.

Can you contact Dr S?
I am using compression and warm compresses until I see my surgeon again.

Of course, keep an eye on it. Seromas can become infected. Watch for the signs.
They can also cause a wound to open if they build enough pressure.
The fluid wants out and it will find it's way out thru a weakened incision line.

Take care of yourself!!

Darn these pesky seromas. I have 2 in my right arm which now feel about flat like a jellyfish but the one in my right arm is still round and solid. My surgeon wants to let the body absorb them but dang it this is going to take forever. I am wearing the compression garnment, not as much as I was because this girl like to sleep naked.

I have an appointment in February to re evauluate.

Jujuvee,
My doctor is like yours. He prefers for the body to absorb them on it's own.  I had a golfball sized one on my incision near my knee and it took about 4 months to leave.  Hang in there!  It will leave!

Dr. Sauceda told me to massage daily. He said it will absorb. I'm counting on it and visualizing it gone!

He told me to take off the compression garments on friday, that they won't make it absorb faster. Massage is the most important.

Now Lee, you should know better than to check your own body! I bet here are lots of willing and able men to do that for you!! LOL!!

Now we are gonna need a seroma support group. The compression isn't a bad idea. Do you think the ongoing scabs might be spitting stitches? That is how all mine presented.

I've yet to read any accounts in all my seroma research about seromas getting infected, so hopefully it won't be an issue!

And don't forget to get "help"'next time!!

Hi my name is Brian, I don't have a seroma but I played one on TV.

Sorry couldn't resist. I wish you didn't have to deal with that pesky thing, but it sounds like your healing well otherwise and given all the work you had at once I think your doing great.

You'll be hitting your stride anyday now,

Lol Bubbzzzz, you're back!  I knew you'd return when the right topics turned up.

I love how my iPad changed seroma to sermon in my post above.
