$20,000 for a one-night stay??? WTH??

I am totally shocked!  I was all ready to schedule my TT.  I had the doctors fee & Anesthesia fee covered with CareCredit and was just waiting on a quote from the hospital that the PS uses...they called me today and said OR time and a 1-night stay would be about $20,000!  I think NOT!  That would put the total procedure at $30,000!

My complete quote from another surgeon was right at $9000 and it included everything.  Of course I like the higher priced surgeon better but when looking at their before & afters...I didn't see a big difference.  And the $9000 quote can't be covered at all with CareCredit!

Has anyone in Oregon used CareCredit and had it accepted for the hospital they used?  If so, where did you have it done?

Thank you for reading my rant and letting me vent a little!

Maybe you might want to see if the PS that had the higher prices uses a surgical center.  I paid around $4500, I think, for OR fees for about 7 hours of surgery. The overnight stays were charged at $950 each.

Theater fees can be expensive. It would be nice if the hospital would break the fees down for you. That way you could compare one hospital to another.  Might be worthwhile if your doc has privledges at more than one hospital.

I'm sure you know, but at 30k  the tummy tuck is way overpriced (imo). I went with a firstclass doc whose fees reflected his skill. I paid less than that and got a LBL and a BL with 2 nights in the hospital.

Something is fishy with the hospital quote.

Yes, I do know that 30K is WAY overpriced and as much as I want a nice flat tummy...hmmm, not that bad!

Dr. Jewell's office has a call in to the billing dept at the hospital to see why it's so high, but the local surgery center is outpatient only so I can't do the TT there.  I can (and will) do my BL with Dr. Jewell but it's not looking good for the tummy right now :(.

I'm glad you posted this.  At my consultation for face lift today the quote at the same surgery center was $4764 and $1150 per night.  I wonder if Dr. L gets a break for doing a large volume there.    The total price was $24,044 for face lift, eyes (top $ bottom lids) and endoscopic brow lift.  I have another consultation on the 31st.  I have no idea what the norm is.  The other PS's surgical center is part of their practice in the same building.  Maybe the fees are less?

That sounds crazy! My entire LBL with over night stay, all pre op and after care will be 10,500.  I am having this done at the Cleveland Clinic. I would get another quote.

It is my understanding that hospitals do not accept care credit in general because they would have to take the "cut."  In other words, the surgeons taht accept care credit agree to a slight fee cut so that care credit geths there month and you get the 6 mo nths interest free.

That makes sense but it's frustrating to be able to finance most of the costs but not all.  I'll get there...just may take a while.

Still have one more appeal with my insurance to try and get my panniculectomy covered and if they do, I'll only have to pay the difference which would be great, but also...highly unlikely that is going to happen.

Keep your fingers crossed for me! :)

I had a TT and Thigh lift. It was considered an "outpatient procedure" but that means "up to" 23 hours in the hospital. So I was able to stay overnight. Check to see what the hospital's outpatient policy is and their time limit.

That's why I went to Mexico and Dr Sauceda.  Under 20k, and I had an LBL, BL, groin thigh lift, and arms, and 4 days later a full neck & face lift.  I was in the clinic for 7 days with 24/7 care and then at the hotel for 7 days with a home visit from Nurse Patty and Dr S came by daily also.  I was off for 8 weeks, then back to work.

The PS that I saw here in Sac used a surgery center and would have sent me home.  I wasn't up to trying to take care of myself after surgery.  It was nice to be pampered.

Maybe look into a teaching hospital?

I paid 8500 for my LBL with overnight stay, pain pump, and cosmetasure plastic surgery insurance @ KU medical center (kansas) residence program.  The overnight stay was 500.

Dacie - I believe Dr. L is one of the supervising surgeons @ Baylor's residents program.
