Iron infusion tomorrow--anyone know what I'm in for?

Hi guys! So tomorrow is the big day. Finally can quit saying that I feel like someone drained the blood out of me! Little did I know how right I was when I said that! I've heard everything from "You'll be fine" to "Good luck--the side effects can be terrible" about these infusions. Has anyone got any first hand experience, either as a patient or someone close to a patient or even our much trusted board nurses? They said they will dose me with steroids first, do a little infusion, wait for trouble, then proceed if all is well.

I'm choosing to believe that it will go smoothly with no ill effects. Murphy and his dumb law will NOT be travelling with me to this appointment!! LOL!

Hope everyone had a good, long weekend.

Thanks,

Denise

If your lucky they will give you Adamantium, then you will have some cool claws and stuff then be a superhero that would rock.

You'll do great best of luck,

Only you Bubbzz. This one was a Googler for me. Never heard of Adamantium. I thought maybe it would turn me into a bad 80'***** rock singer!!! Waits to see if he gets it...

And, um, I think we both know I'm already a superhero. Remember, I rescued you from a ledge recently...

Have a good day Bubbzz!

I received a series of 4, one hour infusions over the course of 4 weeks last year. It was a very relaxing experience. The procedure was done in the Infusion Clinic, where they give chemo, IV vitamins,  minerals, fluids, etc. I was in a very comfortable reclinable lounge chair with moveable legs and arms. The nurse brought me a warm blanket, and offered me juice and crackers, which I had to decline, since I was only about 3 months post-op.

The iron infusion (venoflor) is given via IV and is a dark brown color. The entire procedure took one hour. I took a nap, sipped water, or read a book. The RN reviewed the potential side effects, none of which I experienced. I didn't receive any medication prior to the procedure, but I don't have a history of allergic reactions.

Hope this helps.

Thanks so much for that thorough description! I'm here now and it is exactly as you describe--down to the warm blanket. Tough room to be in though. Gives you an appreciation for how blessed we really are to not be dealing with cancer.

This is a one-time infusion that will take me about 5 hours total--maybe a little longer.

I got my test dose and I'm not having any issues, so yay me!

Thanks again!

I've given plenty of these infusions, they've always pretty much been non events. Hope the same goes for you! Good luck!
