Supplies for my LBL/BL next Tuesday...

I know that there is a list or post probably somewhere, but I went back several pages and could not find one so I thought I would post the question.

I am trying to collect things to have at the house for when I come home from having my LBL and BL next Tuesday.  So far I have:  a comfy recliner, a toilet seat riser, my prescriptions filled and ready, and an extra compression garment from my PS.

Any suggestions of things that you have/had that you couldn't do without?

Thanks so much everyone-starting to get the jitters and anxiety over the unknown like crazy!

Congratulations on your upcoming surgery.  What comes to mind is the following:

Flashlight for when you wake in the nite and can't reach the light.
Big insulated cup with a straw because we're all clumsy post-op.
Baby Wipes for the bathroom
Maxi Pads for drain leakage (if you have drains)
Soft cotton hankies to stick in those places where the compression garments dig into you. Can also use Maxi pads for this but hankies are softer.
Big package of cotton that comes in a sheet and you tear it off.  I used it over the gauze on my incisions under my breasts.  Even at 5 weeks I'm still very tender.
Table next to recliner to hold all your "stuff".
Extension cord for plugging in electronics next to recliner. (I slept in clinic bed for 5 days, then flat hotel bed/home bed and was fine).  Basket to hold your phone, meds, protein bar, mints etc on the table. Phone charger.

Post op I never knew that I was hungry unless I got really cranky, so I always had a protein bar within arms reach because when the hunger did strike, I had to eat in 5 minutes or people had to run from me.

Stool softeners. I only took 1 a day and regretted it after a week of not going.  Listen to those that tell you to take lots!

Lanyard to hang your drains off when you shower - if you have drains. I had 11 so really needed them.

I made a baggie for each day I was in Mexico with all the vitamins I had to take. I could look at the baggie and keep up but everything else I neglected.

Stock the fridge with things you love to drink if you're not a big water person.  You'll want it to flush the meds etc.

I needed a shower chair for the first 8-9 days, then I could stand up alone in the shower.

Q-tips for applying neosporin (or what your surgeon recommends) creams to your incisions.

Gauze and tape to hold it in place.

Soft tank tops to wear between your skin and your compression garments to keep them from digging into you.

I'm sure people will chime in with lots more!

Good luck!!

 THANKS SO MUCH LEE!

That is a wealth of info!  Did you use the big think maxi pads for leakage?  I have Always pads here but not sure if they would work well.
Do they sell the cotton at the regular drug store? I don't think that I have seen it before, but probably wasn't looking either.
Just regular men's cotton hankies?
and
Any suggestions on a good place to get soft tank tops?

Thanks again for the wonderful advice.  Making up a shopping list now for tomorrow.

Congrats on all of your success!

Yes men's hankies.  I used whatever maxi pads I got at the 99 cent store.  I got the cotton at the grocery/pharmacy in Mexico. I know they sell it here. Look in the make up or first aide sections.  Or else get jumbo cotton balls and mush them together.

Any department store like kohl's would have tanks.  You can even get the small ones in men's underwear.  I pull them way down to cover my LBL incision line over the gauze to keep the compression garment from rubbing.  Thrift stores always have them too.  As long as you wash them, you're fine.  At five weeks I still wear them daily.  Get a few if you can so you can wash and wear.

What do you mean by Lanyards to hang the drains?  Your post offers so much info.  I have so much to learn here.  I feel like I did when I first started researching for RNY.

Can you talk a little about the different kinds of face lifts offered?  There are so many different procedures, and I am reading differing opinions on different doctor websites.  What did you choose, and why?

 Hi,

The drains are clipped to clothing so when we are naked, they have nowhere to clip.  They pull if they just hang.  Two lanyards ( li used conference name tag holders that I have),  hooked together make for something to hook the drains to while in the shower.  I wore them under a skirt when I Wendy to the movies etc.

Face lifts.  I went with dr. Sauceda and just let him do hs best on me. I just couldn't go nuts researching anymore.  I just said " don't make me scarey looking".

Any suggestions on sports bras that fasten in the front for after the BL? What kind and where to get them?

Thanks again

Brilliant ideas.  I would have never thought about Lanyards for that.  I knew  what they were but did not know how you used them.  That makes perfect sense.  If it was your idea...brilliant.
