Bad Knee Pain

So, I have been told my PS to continue to sleep on back. Elevate my head and knees. Well, almost every night I wake up with terrible vice grip right knee pain. Does this mean I might have knee problems? I wonder. Anyone had a similar experience?

Thanks,
Michelle

I've had two knee surgeries, and I'd guess from your description of how you've been sleeping that it's probably low back pain causing your knees to hurt. Does it hurt behind the knee in the bend on the back of your leg? I was in an accident, and had bulging discs in my low back, and it hurt in the back of my knee. When my knees hurt, they hurt around the kneecap area on the front. It could just be muscle pain from being in an odd position for too long, too. I would bet money it's just related to your new sleeping position rather than a knee problem. Hope it gets better soon, though.

Its my right knee but the inside of the knee. It actually wakes me up. To straighten it out.. its painful. I use pillows underneath it. I suppose its age and  positioning..

Michelle, make sure you have support under your knees also so that your knee joint is not in a hyperextended position similar t I having your feet proped up on the coffee table with nothing under your knees.

I'm sooooo tied of sleeping on my back!!!!!!!
I have discovered that if I sleep different places (couch, loveseat, recliner) with my back propped up and my wedge pillow under my knees it is the best.  If I sleep in bed I roll over in my sleep and wake up on my side! :-)  Ooops!
Anyway, try the same position in different places.  (BTW, the loveseat has become my favorite!)

Hi Amy!

Sleeping on the back is for the birds! I really cant sustain my sleep overnight due to the knee pain and having t o go potty. I put a pillow partially under each of my sides so there is no roll over but there is no room for anyone else in the bed either. DH sleeping in the guest bedroom. I would pay big bucks to sleep on my side at this point but I also dont want to end up tearing or splitting an incision either. I wish I would have bought a recliner...I figure a few more weeks then maybe sleeping on my side.

Thanks,
Michelle
