I will be getting a panni , and at least two hernias done in a couple weeks. I need to know what kind of support garments I need to purchase and wear. Also how long did you wear these? Any other concerns I need to know?

Thanks Julie

Different surgeons have different opinions on support garments. I was given THIS one by my surgeon. It has hooks and zippers on the sides which made it easy to get in and out of. Also, it is crotchless so I did not have to take it off to use the restroom.

Thanks Laura for leaving feedback. How long did you wear this garment? Do you wear something else now? How about when you exercise?

I wore it for about six weeks then switched to a spanx type support garment.  I'm six months out now. I wear capri length spandex leggings to work out in but that's because I haven't had my thighs done and they are super jiggly, but my tummy is fine now.

Good luck with your recovery!!

Laura, I know that you said that your surgeon gave you this garment, but if you had been buying it and using their sizing chart, would you have used the measurements you had before the surgery?

Thanks, Jenny

I swelled up about 4 inches around after surgery. Looking at the size chart of the garment I had, with my normal measurements I wiould have been a small. My doctor gave me a large and it fit perfectly post-op. I'll admit it freaked me out that I was wearing a size large.

Laura, thanks so much for your help. These things are expensive and I doubt that they are returnable if I order the wrong size.  Sorry you freaked, I'm sure I would have, too, but now that I think about it I'm sure all the swelling makes a big, big difference.

I noticed one of the sites even had instructions for getting into them.  I'm sure it's important not to tug on the new incisions.  Do you have any tips for getting in or out of them?

Thanks, Jenny

the measurements worked well for me, Jenny, but then my surgeon put them on me in the OR before I started swelling.  The return policy is very strict.  One you try it on, you cannot return it.  I battled with one of the companies for months and finally they took it back, but they were not pleased.  It was an arm garment I bought after my brachioplasty and I accidently ordered the wrong size!

 Hi Julie,
I will be having the same thing done on January 30th.  When is your surgery? Do you want to compare notes and celebrate/commiserate together?

Michele, My surgery is Feb 6th and yes I would like to work together? Do you know anything about what support garment to use. i think we get one from our DR. but I was thinking maybe to get another one. Also I heard some people wear them longer for support.
