Residency Program

The LSUHSC Division of Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery

LSU Plastic Surgery Division is directed by Dr. Charles Dupin, who serves as both Division Chief and Program Director of the Plastic Surgery Residency Program. The program includes a faculty of 10 plastic surgeons and associated specialists of the LSU Health Sciences Center. The two-year program is fully accredited for four residents (two in each year).

Comprehensive training is assured by rotations through several hospitals: University Hospital, Children's Hospital of New Orleans, Veterans Administration Hospital, West and East Jefferson Hospital, Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center (Baton Rouge) and SurgeryPlex Center for Outpatient Surgery.

Residents obtain exposure to all aspects of plastic surgery including: reconstructive surgery (breast, head & neck), microsurgery, cleft lip and palate surgery, craniofacial and maxillofacial surgery, hand surgery, trauma (facial, lower extremities, replantations), reconstruction of burn deformities, ophthalmic plastic surgery and aesthetic surgery. The resident performs approximately five hundred surgical procedures in each year of training. The program is accredited as a two-year program. We have a strong core curriculum effort with extremely high success by our graduates on the board examinations offered by American Board of Plastic Surgery.

Requirements

All candidates must satisfy the basic requirements of the American Board of Plastic Surgery whi*****ludes three years of training in an approved general surgery program or board eligibility in a surgical specialty which is recognized by the American Board of Plastic Surgery. Currently, preference is given to candidates who will be board eligible in general surgery (or one of the surgical specialties) when they enter the LSU Plastic Surgery program.

The Program

The Residency Training Program is designed to provide each resident with progressive responsibility and the fullest possible experience in all areas of plastic surgery.

In addition to bedside, operating room and clinic teaching, educational activities include Grand Rounds, formal conferences, weekly resident lectures, Morbidity and Mortality conference, guest lectures, and local meetings. There is also an invaluable anatomical upper extremity cadaver dissection course. An animal microsurgery laboratory is available to improve microsurgical skills and techniques.

Senior residents are encouraged to present papers at various residents' and national meetings on approval of the Director. Junior residents will have the opportunity to attend a national meeting as well. Fully equipped laboratories are available for research in microsurgery, stem cells, wound repair, vasculogenesis, nerve regeneration, and immunology. All trainees are encouraged to participate in these programs.

Graduation requirements include publication of at least two peer-reviewed manuscripts.

Thanks Guys!!! The one surgeon here told me that even if I was combining them It is still the price of 4300 for breast and 7800 for the arms, and that is only for arm lift nothing on the side. The others I called said about the same that is why I didn't  make another consult appointment.

I'm beginning to think it's about 12,000 bucks no matter what two body parts you have done. Seems like that's what most of the quotes I've seen work out to be.

I was quoted 28000 for a BL/BA, LBL and Nose job. This is including multiple surgery discounts, and the fact that my insurance is paying for some of the OR time since I have a deviated septum and hernia that need to be fixed at the same time.

This may be a little steep but it's in my price range and I really love my PS. I'm worth every penny.

Ouch!! 28,000 is a huge chunk of change! Glad you'll get a little help from insurance, though. It's nearly impossible to get insurance to cover anything at all these days. Good luck with all that surgery.
