Some vaginal bleeding after LBL. Normal?

I started having some spotting when I got out of the hospital but the nurse said it could be from a catheter that was in for surgery. But now I put a tampon in an it collects on the out side of the tampon. It doesn't soak in an is dark an sticky blood. Its increasing in amount too. I'm taking a blood thinner shot every day could that cause it? I'm just wondering if any one else had this happen??????

Even though I had my period one week before surgery, I actually got it again 3 days after surgery. I've heard this is pretty common so it might just be that. I would check with your doctor to be sure. I got pretty weak during my period, so I would make sure to get plenty of liquids and fruits/vegatables. Good luck!

The outside of the tampon? I would go back to the dr and have him check it..

I would check wih the surgeon, but I had my period 3 days after my LBL and the blood thinner injections definately played into make it an INTERESTING and LONG cyce!

A catheter would have been in your urethra not your vagina????   Dark blood is old blood.  Fresh bleeding is bright red blood.  It's probably just on the outside of the tampon because of the consistency - not getting absorbed in... call your doc for reassurance.

I read this post and wanted to comment and then couldnt find it.  I must be blind!!

Having the major sugery and the anathesia causes a major shift in your body's hormones. These things are considered major stressers and really do a number on you.

It is not unusual to start a menstrual cycle in the days following surgery.  As one of the above posters mentioned, this can come as a big surprise if you have recently finished your cycle.  It can be an even bigger surprise if you are post menopausal.  One of my nurses had been period free for 8 years and had her surgery.  She was blown away when she began bleeding again and was sure something was wrong.  It turned out to just be a very, unexpected period.

This issue is so common that I think it would be nice if it was included in the pre-surgery info packs that many surgeons give out.  Certainly could avoid some added stress if a patients knows this could happen!

I had the same experience. Post menopausal for 4 years and a very light period just shortly after surgery!
