OREGON PS recipients...tell me about it

My husband and I went to a PS consult in Eugene yesterday and I left feeling a bit depressed and dejected.  My husband, on the other hand, said I think you should just do it all.  He is referring to an Extended TT, BL & augmentation.  I guess I was just shocked at the total costs and am thinking I need to have another consult or 2  (this was my 2nd for the TT but I didn't care for the first doctor).

We met with Dr. Jewell and his fee for the TT (not including the hospital or anesthesia) was $8000...the other quote I received from the doctor I didn't like was just under $9000 and it included the hospital.  I was also told that I should do the BL & aug in 2-stages.  Do the BL, let it heal and everything get where it needs to be before having aug...probably 6 months later.  It kind of makes sense but it makes the cost so much more, however, they did say that once I have a lift that I may decide that I don't need or want aug.  Anyone been in that situation?

We both really liked Dr. Jewell, I mean really liked him. But is that enough to pay so much more?  I'll be using Care Credit for most of it so I may have to do it in stages anyway and I have to go somewhere that this is accepted.

Any words of wisdom?  I'd like to get started and it looks like it will be the BL is in the budget first but then I kind of worry that I should do the TT first or it could get messed up LOL.  Is that crazy?

 Hi Vicki,

I had a consultation with Dr. Movassaghi in Eugene and Dr. Jewel's price does seem high.  I do not have the breakdown in front of me but for Extended TT, BL and some lipo it was $18k including hospital, anesthesia, etc. I want to say the dr. fee was around $5k.

I also had a consultation with Dr. Connell in Portland who funny enough recommended Dr. Jewel. I have not done a consult with him yet. Dr. Connell's quote was about the same as Dr. M.   I have a friend who had a TT with Dr. Ngyuen in Portland and she loves him.  She paid 7k for everything but was pretty small to begin with (not a weight loss patient).

Who was the dr. in Eug that you did not care for?  I really did not like Dr. M at first to the point where I thought about leaving but after we started talking, I warmed up to him.  I am not sure if I will go with him though.  It will be awhile before I have the money so I am still researching.

Lisa,

The doctor I didn't like was Dr. Havard in Corvallis.  He was very degrading and kept saying "you & your cohorts..." referring to Dr. Read's GB patients.  I went to him for a consult for just a panniculectomy as my insurance will only pay for that (if anything).  But I've been denied by my insurance twice because of no skin rashes and also my panni doesn't hang down far enough.  I was hoping to get that approved and just pay the difference for the TT.

He really just irritated me and it wouldn't be a good fit for me.  I'd rather pay the extra!

I had sticker shock too! I decided that quality was worth the price. My DH is great. He thinks I'm worth the money. Thank goodness for his encouragement.

My husband is wonderful too.  He said I should do it all, that we're going to be in debt forever and it may as well be for something that will make me happy.

Dr. Jewell spent a lot of time with us.  He came into the room 3 times to make sure we were comfortable with the information and were able to ask any questions.  I was really upset about the 2-step procedure he does for the BL/Aug but after spending over an hour in the office, I also think it's a good idea.

We are lucky to have amazing hubbies :).
