Does anyone have a horseshoe I can borrow?

I'm checking it out now. I am amazed how so many on these boards are more well versed than most doctors! Good resource for sure.

Thanks so much!

Denise, I would definitely call your insurance company and tell them the line this MD told you. This is unacceptable. The Hct of27.3 should have been treated right away. Leaving someone this anemic for 4 weeks could have lead to other complications I won't even go into here. This is one of the craziest things I have ever heard.

I would lend you my horse shoe, but I think I accidentally hung mine upside down as my luck has been pretty bad as well lately. Maybe we should start looking for four leaf clovers!

Yeah, just got off the phone with the new hematologist. Advised to go to the ER should I have any cardiac symptoms. Pretty much terrified me. I have been having some tacchycardia, but thought it was anxiety. Maybe I'm not crazy afterall! Nah, I'm crazy! LOL!

I'm telling you--Murphy's Law--that son of a ***** follows me everywhere I go. Wish he'd go the hell away!

I think the 4 leaf clover idea is a good one. Now if my yard wasn't frozen solid I'd get right on that!

Hoping not to end up in the ER. I can only imagine how expensive this stuff is when you have prior authorization, let alone when it is done on a emergent basis. Oy.

Thanks! I'm off to scream at someone. My husband said, "Who are you going to yell at?" I said, "Anyone I can!"  Wish me luck!

I'm glad the new hematologist mentioned the cardiac symptoms. I didn't want to be the one to mention that to you. I can't tell you how many times I have seen patients whose secondary problem to anemia was cardiac. Take that advice very seriously.

Very scary stuff. Now I'm trying to decide if I should go to the ER or not. I had some heart racing several days ago and again last night. A little short of breath now, but relatively sure that is a result of freaking myself out and having just had to make the call to them. Oy. Guess I'll call the new office and get their input.

Thanks so much!!

When it comes t cardiac, err on the side of caution. You have young kids and they deserve to have their mom around and healthy for a long time. I hope to hear you haven't neglected this.

I second that...please take his advise and watch for any cardiac symptoms.  Is the new hematologist going to see you ...perhaps today?  I hope you can get in there today.

If I had a 5 leaf clover..I would give you one!

hugs,
Patty

Denise - I am so sorry to hear about your low iron.  Your hematologist is incompetent at best and letting you go four weeks with those numbers is totally unacceptable.  I would definitely document everything you were told, etc. and send it to anyone you can think of (medical boards in your State, your own insurance co., etc.)

I hope you get some great information from others who have dealt with low iron issues and can get treatment soon with a much better doctor!

I'm sending some good luck wishes your way!

Ah, there is a four leaf clover!! Thanks! I'm starting my letter writing campaign in a few minutes. I am going to contact our State Board of Physican Quality Assurance. Hopefully they can help these fools get some checks and balances in place so this doesn't happen to someone else. It really worries me that these are oncologists--what if they messed up a cancer patient's bloodwork and left someone untreated for 4 weeks when time is of the essence with most cancers. Scary.

Thanks for the good vibes!!

You just can't catch a break can you you poor thing. I know where I can get a horseshoe but it might hurt for me get it, but I'll give it a try.

I would definately look for a new hemotologist that is bull**** they let you go that long no excuse what so ever.

Go get a sandwhich board sign with something really bad about the doc outside thier office to see if that changes thier mind about letting patients know about their results.

Hope you find a better doc this time.
