Please any experiences / advise on silicone breast implant ruptures.

Hi,

Just the subject line states. I am awaiting an MRI to confirm a rupture and I am scared to death. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks and Take Care

The rupture rates of contemporary devices before a decade is somewhat rare. What exactly has made you have concern for rupture?

About a year ago I noticied the size of my right breast had gotten larger and shifted more to the right. I ignored it and thought of it as just something that has happened - I couldn't afford to see a plastic surgeon again to fix it (still can't afford that).

About three days ago I started feeling a burning sensation in my breasts mostly in the right breast.

I've been reading things online and it seems to indicate these symptoms mean that I could have silicone rupture.

That is not how a rupture typically would present. Usually what you encounter is an older implant ~10+ years out with a late hardening develop. If you just a few years out, ruptures are almost unheard of unless the implant was inadvertanly damaged during insertion. Usually if there's concern over this you'd either plan on reoperating or start with an ultrasound (rather then MRI) as it's inexpensive and fairly accurate. In cosmetic patients, it would be rare to refer for an MRI.

If there's a little difference in shape b/w sides, that's almost always related to a difference in the capsule space shape. The burning sensation is usually from a little lateral drift of the implant where it starts to "bow-string" on some of the sensory nerves that come in from that direction. It's a very common description in implant patients.

Hi again,

I will be having an ultrasound today (i was wrong I thought I was going to have an MRI) at 2:00.
So if I'm understanding right it's most likley the implant has moved and is now effecting other sensory nerves? Am I doomed to always have this uncomfortable feeling untill I can afford to see another plastic surgeon? Can you give me an idea of how much it would cost to have an implant "corrected"?

Thanks again and Take Care.
